I'm assuming this means you can't cast harmful spells upon yourself in hopes of gaining skill in the said spell? Also, is there a specific place to talk about quests? (don't want help, just have a few questions.)

Yes, you can't cast harmful spells on yourself for practice.

If you could, shamans would be masters with the harm/heal combo in no time, which would put shamans at an even further advantage over most other classes than they already have. For other classes, same thing goes.

AR's training/practicing and ranking is designed to have a sense of danger in it at all times, either from mobs or players. Best suggestion is to practice spells on sleeping shopkeepers at night, just be careful.. don't cast when they wake up, and some spells might wake them up.

As for quests, you can ask any question you like in pretty much any topic (Battlefield, Mocker's Tavern, etc.). Try to leave out any specific spoilers on the quests, though.

Well i decided to practice dispel magic with my invoker. I went for jar of blood + worm. I guess it would be even better if you're a shaman or necro who could summon him somewhere safer.

Actually back in the day you could cast aggressive spells on yourself. And no one mastered spells by doing it, because it reduced proficiency when you did. Didn't know they had added it so you just plain couldn't. Interestin'.

Thanks alot all. That cleared up things. But what Astinor posted rings a bell. I used to play back in the day (well, in my day anyways) and vaguely remembered something like that so as I was casting my spell on myself I would constantly check skill and nothing would change, so I had to find out. Thanks again all.

This is how it used to be, the way Astinor was talking about:

Code:
<300hp 100m 100mv> prof self flame arrow
Your proficiency at flame arrow is 95%.

<300hp 100m 100mv> cast 'flame arrow' self
Hurting yourself doesn't help.
Your flame arrow devastates you!

<265hp 85m 100mv> prof self flame arrow
Your proficiency at flame arrow is 94%.

You would actually LOSE proficiency by casting harmful spells on yourself. I don't think it's like that anymore.

Ever tell an emo kid to go into a dark corner and cut themselves if it's so bad? Well it doesn't go over well. Ohh and my signature makes me laugh every time I see it.
