Hmm. How does a thief (about rank 30) fight a bow-wielding ranger? Clobber won't disarm, I've tried abouut four times. Pets don't take long to kill, but he just runs and gets 'em back. Can't backstab/blackjack either, because we fight too often.

Counterbalanced clobbers over and over (the ranger). You'll dodge much of the arrows that way. That and rank up.

Additionally, you're a rogue, so stop fighting so often and up front. Let time pass, hide, try blackjack stealing some if you want or just get the backstab in against no aura.

Yeah, I second that motion. Just stay hidden the whole time and then black when he walks by. Let him come to you.

Thats just boring thief theory, but really I wanted to just emphasize bow or vs. bow tactics.

VS. bow - Its such a passive own in the right scenarios (compared to a sudden *wham* own like an overhead crush) that you can't rely on a gimmick that may or may not work like disarm. Instead you need to stay inherently protected right off the bat against bow or it shreds you ~ this means counterbalance, a shield, protective shield, or both of the latter two. The fact that you get to 1-h clobber in that situation for a rogue is just a nice perk.

(assuming no protective shield / mage):
dual wield = you die
two handed = really depends.. sometimes that guy with colossal is going to rip you up in this case, but other times you can get away with it.. up to the situation and what you feel you can get away with
counterbalance or shield = what you should be glued to if he is glued to bow.. don't forget warrior sideswipe and ranger volley are particularly brutal against bows.. or the fact that if you hobble them they lose their only defense (dodge), aside from possibly point blank
