Questions about rangers

Hello all,
I have a couple questions about rangers.
1. Why dont rangers get dodge before level 17? The reason I ask is that whith the way parry and shield blok work if you are not one of the stronger and heartier races they dont seem to really work.
2. Will volley work when ranking on mobs? The help file on it seems to indicate it wont.

Hi Greg,

1) The way that combat is set up, your armor class is more important than your defensive skills (shield block, dodge, and parry) until about level 30. After that the skills take over and AC doesn't matter much. In short, AC helps you not get hit at low levels, defenses after that.

2) Volley will work against mobs. Make sure you have javelins loaded in your shield and either attack with 'murder mob' or type 'volley' while fighting. when you begin an attack with murder and have javelins at the ready, you'll throw some as you close in to begin combat.

Starting at level 20 or 30, I forget, you can get decent javelins in the ranger guild in emerald forest, southwest of Seringale

best parry = use a mace, regardless of even weapon advantage
not just have best strength race
