Well for one thing, their spell TORNADO was essentially a tiny bit weaker version of area effect Hellstream.

And thats just the beginning.

Tornado was a bit like hellstream, they had spells so you couldn't lag them. They had ranger like pets, they could make a druid staff that was bad ass, decent defenses, healing spells.. lots of stuff. You could sit around naked tornadoing with a druid and never die you were smart.

Is there anywhere where their skill/spell list is still around? I too was not around for the days of the druid. And I think if you (the imms) want any help/ideas for how to deal with druids, then I think you should post their skills/spells somewhere so that we can build off that so that the new druids resemble the old druids but are more balanced.

Enhance damage and throw seem a bit incongruous.

flash of genius.

make a cleric type that is generic, can be any alignment, but lacks the anti-alignment spells. has healing, relies on weapon damage, among other things, but has some mals and/or mentals unique to it.

I always think its odd Shaman get to be lawful. I disagree on that, since their devotion to the god of death and chaos would be opposed to law, but removing their ability to be lawful and in justice might gimp justices, unless there's a generic healer/mal casting/weapon dmg type that can be any alignment, or at least neutral and evil.

Define: Shaman = in societies practicing shamanism: one acting as a medium between the visible and spirit worlds; practices sorcery for healing or divination

okay...

you looked up a real world definition of shaman, and this pertains to a game where we can make our own definitions of a fantasy world, how?

Code:
Twisted and malevolent from communing into the darkness, the guild of the
shamans is a sect of dark priests that aim to destroy the faith of others.
They are the prophets of death and suffering, and often play an instrumental
part in it themselves.  Communing their supplications from both the gods of
darkness and the demons of the material abyss, they possess a devastating
array of maledictions, allowing them to capitalize quickly and ruthlessly
on an unprepared foe, to gradually wear out the strongest of warriors, and
to turn the bravest of enemies into a nervous, gibbering wreck.  Their faces
usually take on a skeletal or demonic appearance, from their close ties with
the prime evils, and they must stay evil to use their prayers.

I took the liberty of paraphrasing the helpfile, but if you want it spelled out for you Question

I agree with Crazyhorse. It's not odd if Shamans are lawful.

When I see a shaman in the game, my heart beats fast and my typing fingers go wobbly and numb. In general, they are evil, scary, unpredictable beings to be avoided at all costs.

However, as Crazyhorse correctly points out Shaman are the go-to point between the earthly and spirit worlds. Shaman were healers in tribes and used their magic potions and communing with the spirit world to heal. Healing is good and noble. They must have obeyed all sorts of laws of the science and laws of the gods to enable them to formulate potions and summon the netherworld forces, ergo...can be lawful.

I made a lawful Shaman but it didn't work out so good because I can't fight very well and couldn't get up the nerve to just going around killing people.

On the other hand, they do get a bad rap. I remembering being new and met a Shaman who was a Mystic and I didn't understand that Mystics were friendly and wouldn't kill me........I ran for my life! Maybe Mystics shouldn't be Shaman?

PS Mandor snuck in a post inbetween when I was responding to the last posts. He's right though, we should follow the AR definition of Shaman. Wasn't this conversation about Druids?

So death... I kind of give you. Prophets of death... meh.

Chaos...? Your entire point...?

I went to real life description because I assumed thats where you were getting your skewed views of shaman.

Now, I think I have stumbled upon a bit of irony here. I believe you are taking the word "evil", and thinking it means the word "chaotic". In real life terms... Well thats mostly true. In la la land, there is a very clear separation between the two. That makes me giggle. And if thats not what you did, please please please tell me how the helpfile helps your point at all.

this is their goal. this goal conflicts with justice since if everyone started camping town there would be no way they could continue their evil behavior as the helpfile states.

they commune with demons for their power. demons are chaotic evil in the most pure form. higher beings give their powers so that you will use their power to do what they feel should be done. So if you didn't do as they thought you should, they could revoke their powers or outright kill you.

are you kidding me? Lots of lawful evils exist in the world. they're the ones that take power and force everyone to bow to them. If they're not in power, you can bet they're using the system they're a part of to take advantage of others left and right. this is not the point, as again the real world does NOT correlate to a fantasy world where anything can be what we want it to be. Not only that, but theres an alignment system in the game.

that doesn't even make sense from the start. my "skewed" views were coming from the helpfile, about how clerics were split and some became twisted malevolent beings that hunger for causing pain and destruction. Seringale's laws are about preservation, and if the shaman in question were to attempt their "helpfile guidelines" to the fullest, they'd inevitably bring fighting into Seringale, which would cause chaos when people attack the law itself because of the evils.

anyway, the whole point was that maybe there needs to be a more generic cleric that is less alignment based, and then shaman could be neutral or chaotic without causing a loss of a cleric in justice because this other genericleric would fill the gap.

You're confusing because I can't understand what you mean by skewed when you quote a dictionary in response to the death and chaos remark. Is my thinking, as you assume, skewed because I think shaman are death and chaos but they arent in real life? Is it skewed because you think shaman arent so in the game but are in real life?

I really don't understand you.
