Here's my idea. Prepend the terms Lord or Lady (based on character's sex) to a character's name in the WHO list, if that character meets a certain amount of hours played combined with creation date. This would encourage people to play more often, play longer, and hopefully discourage people from rage deleting so soon. It would also reward people who have put in time and effort on their characters by giving them a little gem of a title customization. Further, it would give newbies an idea of who to ask for help if there's no Mystics or Immortals around and no one answering on the NEWBIE channel.

The required number of hours/time since creation date would be up for discussion. The reason I think having age AND creation date as a factor is so the flash-in-the-pan super characters who log 300 hours in their first month and then rage delete don't get the Lord/Lady status. But someone like Noliperus or Grizit assuredly would.

Example:

Code:

[   Dwarf    ] [KEEPER] (ANATHEMA) Lord Trogm Stormhammer the Brewmaster
[   Human    ] [LEGION] (ANATHEMA) Deriic the Battlemaster
[   Human    ] [KNIGHT] (General) (BOUNTIED) (INTRUDER) Rosellin the Angel of Arcana, General of Valour
[   Duerg    ] Vreharhk the Master of Touch
[   Human    ] [JUSTICE] Tyravel the Angel of Arcana
[50 H-Elf Pal] <PK> [KNIGHT] (Champion) Jaqr Elleran the Holy Knight, Champion of Valour
[   H-Elf    ] [A] Ezekiel the Templar Colonel, Squire of Jaqr
[   H-Elf    ] [A] Kashya the Keeper of the Valley, Squire of Rosellin

Yes Clif, I went through your pre-posting riggamaroo before posting this idea.

Something like this could be expanded to add more titles which are grouped or associated with specific classes (Lord/Lady might be fine for a paladin, but a thief or ninja might be better suited with "Sensei" or "Master" or something). Plus I think this should without a doubt be a 50-only thing (no sense rewarding someone for lowbie-trolling around for hours upon hours). But yeah, I think something like minimum of 250-300 hours, 3 months minimum from creation date (and possibly even a maintenance login - i.e. minimum hours per month to maintain the title) would be suitable.

I like it in theory, as there's no PK imbalance to worry about (meaning you're not rewarding time with game-altering benefits), and it's a tool not only to reward player/characters with for their longevity, but it's also helpful to new players like you mentioned.

Good job. Let's see if it holds up against Clifton's guide... Twisted Evil

I like 250 hours + 1 year for something like Lord/Lady/Master/Mistress. (Necro would probably fall under master/mistress or something.)

350 hours and 2 years for the next title, maybe Baron or Baroness.

Maybe after 450-500 hours and 3 years you gain the title Legendary. These could all appear in yells as well(Legendary Noliperus yells 'Help! Someone is raping me for my guild issue!')

However, all of these prefixes should not be automatically granted. All the restrictions should just unlock a quest that will allow you to earn the title. After 50 pks you unlock the Murderous prefix quest, and you'll need to kill another 50 people to actually wear the title. For something like the Baron title, the quest could be something like being part of the party to kill the Baron in winter.

I like the idea of more non-pk char. developement making your character into something worth holding on to.

I would also like to see something like this but to make it a year requirement might be a little rough. Mainly, it's just necromancers and Mystics that you generally see last over a year, except for a few choice characters. As for whom to give such titles to, I would also agree that the quest idea is definitely a nice way of going about it. To add, I think these quests should be granted by an immortal or someone else to further ensure the characters integrity. I always enjoy RP additions.

Its called a "pre-title", ... and you forgot the stereotypical appending of "sir' before Knight titles ......

I appreciate the input that characters could probably use a little more reward for logging in tons of hours. Also this suggestion is completely cosmetic so almost harmless. The downside is that titles like "lord", "baron" etc have actual historical significance that is relevant to the game's time period. These things involved owning land, maybe being a member of royalty, etc. Those are allusions which I don't feel comfortable imparting on people's characters. Its kind of the other end of the Tolkien scale, where instead of people behaving like huge noobs and rage deleting, the game has an aristocracy of old characters that refuse to die. It looks like it would lean us towards things like player housing etc. Rage deletes have at least ensured it doesn't feel like a stagnant game.

In fact we have custom titles which we rarely give out or allow players to pick.... why don't we just say completing all the quests will give you the option of choosing your own. That's something which'll take a year. We could award pre-titles for other kinds of achievements like winning 50 duels.

Well most non-cabaled characters that I have seen that last, in my experience, tend to be necro's. Now there are a few choice others, but these seem to stick out in my mind. Why? Well to play a necro takes great patience... Leveling up, trying to find a group, and pretty much having to be a loner (most RP it that way), etc. Heheh I would add Heralds to the list of longevity, but unfortunately they do not seem to appeal to our playerbase like they used to. A shame, really... If someone keeps a Herald and keeps to it, I promise you I will buy you a graycliff cigar and threefingers of a fine scotch or whiskey!

Would the character lose the pre-title when new quests get created and they haven't completed it yet?

Would those stinking Ring quests need to be completed? I hates them Confused
