What if blindness dust were to be curable by remove blindness, and then the dust lingered in your eyes until you rubbed it out, like it was a dirt kick from a rogue? This solves the issue of it being a certain hosing ability in confined spaces, while maintaining it as something useful and dangerous. To cure it off would require fleeing to quaff a gyvel, which means the dust will stay in the eyes longer like dirt would. To cure it off during a fight would mean removing a shield or weapon to have a chance to cure it off.
