Howdy. A friend of mine introduced me to this MUD a week or so back, and I'd like to say I've been enjoying it a lot.
Against his advisory, I picked a human monk first, and I really liked it. It seems like a tough class at first but I'm hoping it pull together at the end.
But until I'm better used to the system and know my way around, I'm setting Folkar (level 10) aside and playing my half-elf bard, Gilgame (level 17) almost exclusively.
But I've got a question regarding bards: has knockout been removed? I glanced over some old posts and saw eye gouge was removed, even though I didn't even realize I was supposed to get it, but I haven't seen anything regarding knockout as of yet. It was one of the skills I was looking forward to, since it seemed difficult to pull off but a good means to evade a fight. I have uncanny attack where knockout should be, but uncanny attack doesn't really seem interesting.
Anyways, thanks in advance, and I'm glad to be here. |

Not interesting? Try uncanny attack when you have weapon type advantage.. |

Yeah. In terms of what it does and the implications of it, uncanny attack just doesn't seem interesting. Knockout seems more interesting, as it's a one shot thing to end a fight early and get away. Uncanny, by the helpfile, just doesn't seem that.. well, fun. It just sems like any other attack, but with a weapon type advantage.
I haven't had the practices to train it yet, mind, let alone found an exotic weapon I could use. |

Knockout had such a low probability of landing it wasn't worth the practices.
Seriously, practice uncanny attack. You'll be glad you did.
Exotic weapon proficiency goes by level, just because you may be "adequate" with it now, by the time you hit 30 or so, you'll have 100% in the skill. |

So knockout is out? Bugger. Oh well. I intended to train uncanny anyways, just I haven't had practices for it. |

If you have weapon advantage against someone (i.e. - they're wielding a bladed weapon and you're wielding an exotic), "uncanny attack" has the chance to a) do decent damage, and b) rake their weapon aside for one round. Given the fact that you've only got about a one-round lag on the skill, you could "potentially" keep their weapon raked aside for the entire fight - or until they realize it and switch to a shaft or segment weapon type.
It's pretty nice. |

Uncanny rakes the other guys weapon rendering it unuseable for the next round ..and it does some damage too.
Knockout didnt hold a candle to the thief skill "blackjack" in terms of success rate and usefulness. |
