When you mess up a step in a quest..

I was doing a mulitple step quest, and was nearly at the end and then mistakenly killed a mob instead of 'grabbing' him. I tried 'get' and that wouldn't work, so I killed it like all the other mobs previously.

Anyway, when killing him didn't advance the quest, I left the area and waited, then repeated the last few steps to get what I needed. I've got a key and found what I need to open it won't work and won't mark that step off the quest list. (trying not to give too much away, just enough to see if there is any way I'll be able to finish it)

Is there anway to to re-trigger this quest at some point so I can finish it? Or have I messed it up and lost the opportunity?

Caris - which quest are you specifically talking about? You don't have to reveal each step, but maybe generally mention it ("the old monk quest" for example). We can give more advice that's relevant to the quest if we know which one it is.

i think he means the slave quest from the vampire charmer

Yes, it is the slave quest. I first killed the Parrot, but then went back and got the key from him. That is where I'm stuck. The quest part I need specifically is 'Find the Treasure Chest' which I have, but nothing happens.

Delete the specifics if I've revealed too much.

Well, of course I did try all sorts of things, some obvious and some not so obvious. You're right, it might not be the right chest, I did think of that. I guess I just wanted reassurance that I could still complete this quest since I messed up and kill the bird in the beginning. Since doing the right thing with the bird and getting the key, didn't give me a message like the other steps.

I had a little trouble on that quest, except when I was doing it and it rebooted. I'm kind of curious if I have to redo the whole thing over again or what? Good question Caris.

Did you try looting the treasure chest after you found it?

Yes, the chest is locked and the key doesn't work in it. You can't take it, push it, pull it, open it, unlock etc.

The key itself says 'buried treasure' the quest clue says 'Find the Treasure Chest'

That is definately marked as Treasure Chest, but it's not buried. I've tried looking for a buried treasure to no avail.

The key also vanishes when you quit, so you need to that part over again. I did the entire thing over again today, with no better results. Other than I got killed by a legion when looking around for buried treasure in Darkhaven. Gotta love that!

I can't figure out if I'm not looking in the right place or if the quest is broken for me since I didn't do it correct the first time, or if it's just broken.

Any help would be appreciated. I'd like to finish at least one quest I start,

Where do pirates bury their treasure? That's the first step to finding the right chest. Its a "dead mans chest" you're looking for.
