Can backgrounds be too long? I'm only asking because I tend to go overboard with my writing. |

There's a built-in limit of around 70 lines or so. If you write it that long and make it entertaining I won't mind. If you write it and make me feel like I want to tear my eyeballs out, I'll throw a shoe at you.
Just kidding. What I meant to say was, write as much as you would like to describe yourself, and if it doesn't fit, just see where you can condense it (don't need a paragraph description of father's food-grimed beard, for example). And if you need any help condensing or whatever you can ask. |

Yes, there's a limit to the background length, and you'll be forcibly cut off (i.e. "not allowed to write anymore") when you reach that line length.
The best suggestion is to use the background as a paraphrasing/summary of the high points that direct your character to his/her destination in life (i.e. if you're going for a cabal, what happened before age 17 that made your character decide to do that, if anything). Use notes, applications, and inter-character interaction to divulge the whole story. |

Eh, most of us read backgrounds. They're very useful for seeing whether pk'ing has any roleplay behind it that sort of thing. Personally I try to read all the cabals backgrounds to see how imaginative players are being with their characters. It even gives me ideas for mobs to put in areas and things like that. Nothing would please me more in a year's time than to want to, example, put a Justice mob in seringale, and I can find dead justices with fully done backgrounds and descs to choose from. |

Haha that's just being lazy ^_^, mapped out for you and everything. I like short to medium length backgrounds that gives the reader lots to think about. |
