Depends, if youre just one of those human mages, I can see it being short duration then, and for the ranking speed and levels over everyone at 50, why not? Drow shaman is the only character I think was designed to be deliberately shafted on wards, and thats supposedly worth it for mass mana + high-int mana regen (curing) + offensive power w/ massive mana for causes. Personally I'd rather see INT a more interesting stat than for just tick whoring, but its there, use it with a drow shaman or suck because you aren't playing to your strengths. Also if youre whoring tick, you wont be in combat when ward fails.

As for fighting warriors with mages.. the fight really isnt about "trying to keep ward up", its about casting offensive spells. Its the warriors who are shafted, not the mages. Everything they try besides flee/murder can be disabled. There are situations you can set up to make that impossible for them, but its pretty cheese in some matchups. But shamans can flee/murder well themselves with frenzy.
