Should I practice scout or tame? I have two practices left, and I'm not really sure which one I would have more fun with, or whether either would be useful.

Gee, practice a skill that can unrage a berserker, or one that improves scan distance by 2 rooms. That's a tough question.

You can't scout all like you can scan all either. Useless.

'TAME'
Syntax: tame <target>

Rangers are able to employ their knowledge of creatures in the realm to
find the best tactics that could calm the creature down. They know that
many times a creature attacks because of fear or misunderstanding. Thus,
even if a creature is in an angry rage, rangers may be able to tame them
so that a peaceful solution can be found. It has been known that even
in the middle of fights, beasts have been tamed by the skilled ranger.

Didn't know that. Guess that I'll be practicing tame. Thanks.

Its decent crowd control where you can use it actually.. Ex: you could tame hellhounds in a basement mansion group, tame a lot of those aggro mobs in Redhorne group, etc. Success rate isn't bad either.

Haven't tried it in a pk though.

Its been in the game a while - I don't know why the helpfiles aren't right , but the change was posted at some point. It was working the whole time Naiirok and Jalkut played their characters, and I am sure I reminded them especially to use it. The specifics were changed along with the calm spell change, which should also be posted on the forum sonewhere. If it isn't posted, I guess Burzuk couldn't get around to that for whatever reason. But its definitely an intended part of the ranger class.

The reasoning is fairly straight-forward :- Rangers have had their herb kind of 'gimped' (can miss, and toned down a bunch for low int) while other fighters still have berserk for hp/damage/saves. So the rangers, still lacking berserk, can tame the opponent to get rid of that effect. And obviously rage makes bows pretty worthless, so there's an even greater need for a counter there.

Since the helpfiles are out-dated and all, you'll want to play with it to find out how it works, doubt you'd want to leave it 1% though even if my memory is fading about what it does.
