Original Tolkein is best.

Everything else is a mere immitation. Not bad mind you, just not ground breaking.

I gave up Dragonlance after playing AR. Reminded me of the adventures of a bunch of half-ass level 5's who have a bitch of a time taking down goblins. FYI, I own over 120 Forgotten Realms novels.

Forgotten Realms and Dragon Lance are both worlds from AD&D.

Definitely Wheel of Time for it's complexity, but how can you not laugh your ass off at Tasslehoff Burrfoot's antics and of course the power of sickly, crackhead Raistlin? Dragonlance comes in a close second.

Wheel of Time owns any day of the week. I used to love Dragonlance more then anything and although I like it alot it lacks the seriousness and complexity of Wheel of Time. Robert Jordans style of writing is seriously alot better then the Weis/Hickman style. Although for me Dragonlance and The Serpent War Saga (Raymond E. Feist) are definatly tied a close second.

Damn Hampster, you've got good taste. Feist is another excellent storyteller.

Wheel of Time is by far the greatest EPIC written to date. Not far behind is Sword of Truth by Terry Goodkind.

Dont get me wrong, Dragonlance(Legends and Chronicles Series) was great as well as ForgottenRealms(ALL the Drizzt novels by R.A Salvatore, plus his Cleric Quintet(spelling??))

And Wheel of Time still has more pages than those books combined *snicker* Or at least it feels that way.

I would agree, but I never quite got the hang of second editon dungeons and dragons. Forgotten Realms for sure. Drizzt, Elminster, anything else I forgot?

The first sword of truth book was OK, then you start the second one and it's like a Robert Jordan fan fiction. Being influenced by other novels is fine to an extent. I always felt the aiel were influenced by Dune for example. The sword of truth books seem to copy verbatim from Robert Jordan's world, although for all I know it's the other way around.

One series I really enjoyed that most people don't know about is the Tale of the Malazan series by Steven Erikson. If you're looking for something new to read I highly suggest them.

Terry Brooks sword of shannara was the first fanasty book I ever read. After that I progressed to dragonlance and the last major fanasty series I read and liked was the Wheel of Time. Well, the first six books were good but after that they progressively declined with the last book about as interesting as reading a herald story (joking). Still, like most people I'll end up buying the last two books just to see what finally happens.
