An idea: buying skills

An idea popped in my head a few nights ago as my paladin got his ass handed to him by a dark knight...buying skills outside of our skill trees.

Here's how it would work. Once you reach a certain rank, you'd be able to buy ONE skill/spell from the guild-guardian of a guild other than your own. You could only do this ONCE in your character's lifetime.

Not all skills/spells would be available for purchase. Guilds won't sell their trade secrets, so like the Invoker guild won't sell Hellstream and Paladins won't sell Errantry.

The skills/spells for sale would be carefully picked and approved by Dav to ensure that game balance wasn't being fucked with. I'm thinking things like crfo, crwa, iden, loca, hide, detect hidden...skills/spells that multiple classes learn at relatively low levels.

And, not all buyable skills/spells would be available to all classes. What a ranger could buy from the necro guild might be different than what a dk could buy from necros.

You would never be able to master a skills/spell you bought. Maybe it would max out at the Learned 75% spot. You could lose your bought skill/spell for doing certain 'bad' things, like you do for going against your alignment or attacking your own guild guardian.

The price would be steep...somewhere along the lines of what you pay to change your hometown. Or maybe even higher?

and definitely Thieves with Hellstream....Yeah, sounds about right to me.
