Arena Bets

I'm not understanding the benefit to betting on a player who is fighting in the arena.

For example, lets say I have 1500 gold. I bet 1000 gold on player A, I instantly lose 1000 gold, so I have 500 gold left. Then if player A wins I get 1000 gold. So for my RISK of 1000 gold and choosing the correct winner, I end up with my original 1500 gold and break even.

So is betting in the arena just to show support for a player?

Arena betting requires two people for it to work. There aren't any odds and pots are split percentage wise.

So suppose you bet 1000g on player A, and I bet 1000g on player B. If player A wins, you get your original 1000 and my 1000 as well. You'd end up with 2500g.

If however you bet 1000g, and I bet 1g, if A wins, then you get my 1g. If I win, my 1g bet nets me your 1000g.

Suppose it's not just marsd and groq join us in our betting. You put in 1000 for A, I put in 1g for A, and Marsd and Groq both put in 500g for B. The end pot gets split proportionally. If B wins, then the pot for A (1001g) goes to them and they split that evenly because both of them put in the same amount. If A wins, then you would get (1000:1) of the total prize money. In this case, it'd be something like 999g and I'd get my share of 1g.

Does that make sense?

If you bet 1000g on player A, no one bets on player B, and B wins, you just lose your bet. If A wins, you don't profit anything.
