The problem becomes that once we open up the naming rules then people are going to abuse it. We'll yell at someone whose name is in violation and doesn't have a good roleplaying reason to go along with it, and they'll be all "wahwah what about so and so" and then it becomes about favoritism.

In the future, you could try a name that sounds the same when spoken aloud to a name you prefer. For example, you want to be called Castle. Make your name Cassel or something.
