Currently the bash formula seems to apply 1 round of lag if the Str differences are similar enough as in here,
Code: |
<616hp 479m 302mv 5315tnl><road>
Xerimiah knocks you senseless with a full on bodyslam!
Xerimiah's bodyslam decimates you!
Xerimiah has quite a few wounds.
<589hp 479m 302mv 5315tnl><road>
[***] You dodge Xerimiah's wrath.
Xerimiah's wrath decimates you!
Your acidic bite misses Xerimiah.
Xerimiah has quite a few wounds.
<561hp 479m 302mv 5315tnl><road>flee
flee
You flee from combat!
You lost 10 experience points.

whereas It lags for at least 3 rounds as designated by this:
Code: |
<166/630hp 589/841m 371mv> shaft dual_wield [city aggressive] noon
Vendert knocks you senseless with a full on bodyslam!
Vendert's bodyslam devastates you!
You sure are BLEEDING!
Vendert has some big nasty wounds and scratches.
<136/630hp 589/841m 371mv> shaft dual_wield [city aggressive] noon
[** ] You parry Vendert's turmoil.
[***] You parry Vendert's turmoil.
Your wrath maims Vendert!
Your wrath maims Vendert!
Vendert has some big nasty wounds and scratches.
<136/630hp 589/841m 371mv> shaft dual_wield [city aggressive] noon
[** ] You parry Vendert's turmoil.
Vendert tries to rake you, but fails.
[***] You parry Vendert's turmoil.
[***] You parry Vendert's turmoil.
Your wrath mauls Vendert.
Vendert has some big nasty wounds and scratches.
<136/630hp 589/841m 371mv> shaft dual_wield [city aggressive] noon
You gather your wits and recollect your thoughts.
You regain your confidence.
Vendert has some big nasty wounds and scratches.
<145/630hp 600/841m 394mv> shaft dual_wield [city aggressive] day
Vendert knocks you senseless with a full on bodyslam!
Vendert's bodyslam MUTILATES you!
You sure are BLEEDING!
Vendert has some big nasty wounds and scratches.

We can talk about fixing holy and unholy armor later, as the design couldn't prove to be working properly or not as it was introduced with the loss of dodge and before the lag skill bug was gotten rid of, leading to a dramatic increase in success rates (and lag skills are what kill hybrids, hrm).
What seems important is to notice that lag does between 1 to 3 rounds of bash, and that a giant can't bodyslam a human and lock them in a fight much at all.
Quote: |
Reworking the bash skill to something like 1.5 round average.
reworking the bash skill to add .5 round of lag for every +2 strength over the opposition.
1 round minimum bash, If you are 3 or more strength below the defenders strength.
|
In the first example, the giant would do 2 rounds of lag to the human.
In the second example, the mino would do 2.5 rounds of lag.
Giants would still do 3 rounds of lag.
This could make it more intuitive (giants should be king of bashes) and provide a reason for races of equal strength to choose bash over trip.
otherwise we just see fights where a giant doesnt really affect a human at all, while they could possibly be eating mental damage in return, or at least lag themselves to the point the human can get away. Bash was not really desirable prior to the bug fix, yet it still isn't desirable a lot of the time due to low timing in instances of similar strength. I assume based on the interaction of bash between the giant and human that it'd be the same between duergar and elf or drow, for instance. This assumption may be wrong, but the current evidence runs along those lines. There might be special penalties invoked for under 20 str races.
stone and storm giants were subpar due to the issue in the first example, while fire giants were obvious kings and minotaurs were just as good as storm and stone giants but without the vulns. This fixes that issue, while creating a more intuitive or easier to understand way of how bash will work as attacker A vs defender B.
It creates some advantageous use for dex races against other dex races, where trips don't work out.
It allows a human to lag a storm or stone for 1.5, but a storm or stone lags a human 2.

the way its set up now I think luck has a lot to do with it. IE you bash someone and they tumble backwards rolling to their feet with the one round lag, or you bash someone and they fall to the ground dazed for a few seconds before instincts get them back on their feet. Making it predetermined how long by str and size would mean that Giants could ALWAYS chain bash people to death with no repercussions. Engage---- Oh I picked the right weapon combo, BASH BASH BASH dead. That would imbalance things quite a bit. |

Why did you link bodyslam to illustrate bash? Those skills are very different. I'm glad you guys finally appreciate giants can do something well though. They really need that . Effigy power. |
