This is corrollary to my other guide, "newbie running/retrieval guide". These are the qualities you need to be a good tracker.
#1. Fast connection with low latency.
Improve this by:
- upgrade your internet to dsl/cable
- malware scan your computer
- virus scanner
- turn off torrentz and other file sharing
#2. Knowledge of areas
This cannot be trained, you simply need to be proactive about learning your way around.
- Review an areas map to make sure you have a mental picture of how to get around it
- Learn the room names of the commonly used areas: Seringale, sewers, gnome village, ford
- Memorized directions between junctions and fiddly parts of area navigation
#3. Move smart
If you are trying to CHASE A player he is just trying to run away from you as fast as he can. You will not catch this guy without limiting your inputs to movement similarly.
- DO NOT USE THE SCAN COMMAND WHILE CHASING, EVER
- Use only "whe" with a highlight, and only use it when you have to use it, e.g. because he is 7 rooms ahead and potentially leaving an area and you MUST check
- Sometimes there is a faster route to a place, use it
- Train your movement points
- Wear equipment that increases your total movement points
- Use flying scrolls because chasing does expend lots of movement
- See #2 memorized directions. If you apply these first two points, this will make the difference you need to catch up
#4. Fight smart
Above all recognise if your opponent is in fight or flight mode. If they are still willing to fight you then you can use your skills, spells on them freely.
Once they decide to run away, you cannot do that anymore.
-Only use skills when they use skills. Otherwise you just gave them a big head start when they flee.
- hobble and bash help seal the deal but you risk missing and giving them a big head start
If possible use traps.
- use doors, have keys they dont, lure them into a place and lock
- persuade a buddy to camp their recall so they cant get to safety that way
That's my braindump for the moment, feel free to add. |

you should be able to play perfectly well on a 56k dial-up modem. The game itself is designed to respond at a 28.8k rate afaik.
If you build up a library of speedwalk macros to places, and you know exactly where they're going to hide, you can speedwalk there and be there BEFORE them and just jump on them. |
