(This is the last silly theObserver idea for a while. Honest)
When I was a kid I loved the magic faraway tree books by Enid Blyton.
The coolest thing about this tree was a door into the clouds at the very top that led a different land every three days and if you got stuck there when the land moved, well you were in a lot a trouble.
Sooooo how about a far away tree style rotating area in AR ?
The Imms would choose some of the less popular areas and move any common objects. These areas are then to set randomly 'rotate' every 30 ticks or so with only one area accessible to players at a time. Players would walk in without knowing what area they are entering. If they are still in the area when the 30 ticks are up, then they either die or are transported out.
Advantages
-------------
-> The mud is slimmed without losing any areas the staff have worked hard on.
-> Some old areas like the mob factory could be reintroduced or even new stock areas.
-> The timer adds a new slice of urgency to the area.
-> Incentives like quests/coins/items could be added to encourage players to risk exploring the random area. |
