|

The idea that I had was the ability to turn on or off your light without removing it to do so. Some lights for instance cannot be removed, and there can sometimes be a tactical advantage to running around without a light on and just going with infra-vision. Just a thought. There are some other reasons I can think of for this, and I thought it might be interesting to see. Personally if I am wearing a light that grants me strength that I need, I am not going to want to take that light off to try and catch that hiding rogue... |

Certain lights I could see that happen. But with torches, unless you're an invoker or ranger maybe, now everyone's going to have to carry around matches. Also, for cabal leader banners, I think it would be a disgrace to turn their light out.
Edit: As in it would be disgraceful for a cabal leader to turn the light out on his own cabal. |

Is there a downside to having no light? Would it be better as a PK ability to dim someone's light? That's my thoughts. |

Simple commands could be implemented like, someone with blood candle could use "snuff candle" and "light candle" and someone with a glowing ball of light could use "cover ball" and "uncover ball".
This is highly useful for certain races with infravision while enemy has their light stolen for an example or has no light.
Also useful to pass the pesky mobs in Undercity who attack when you have a lightsource.
And so on and so forth. I like Nadrin's idea, it adds more diversity to cunning combat plans! |

i dont think unlit is autoattack these days. donno y.
I think this would be a good idea if the actual light has more function. I think this would be useful in very few cases. Now they could add some features to lights to make this idea work. Like less guilds get infravision, having no light or a dimmed light (coupled with a dark room) increases hiding chance, assassination, tripwire, etc. It could make flashfire more potent and so forth |

The whole idea would be to be able to make it stop giving off light, or make it give off light at will. For instance there is a quest you can't do without taking off your light, (Cabal leaders can't remove their light so can't do this quest unless they do it prior to getting leader) Thieves and Ninjas can hide. Well if they are hiding in a dark area with a light on and you take your light off (or turn it off if you could) you can see that the room is brighter when you walk into the room they are hiding in, so you know to bring them out, etc. Its useful. |

Depends on the light. The balls you get from continual light are by definition CONTINUAL LIGHT... A lantern could probably be turned off (then again, maybe I should quit thinking of the old Zork series with the brass lantern)...
Then again, in Zork Zero there is a candle which never goes out, and in Zork I there is the ivory torch which never seems to stop burning. With the latter, I tried shaking it, blowing it out, rolling it in the sand on the beach, and it still remained lit. If it were from a weapon we could apply D&D magical weapon rules... |
