|
|
I've personally decided to make it a quest of mine to increase AR's playerbase. And I've got a plan. But I'm trying to think of more ideas. So, everyone here can post there ideas on what we can do to help increase AR's playerbase.
A lot of small things might add up to a difference. |

You know those emails that you recieve giving you 10 minutes to send it to complete and send to everyone in your adress folder? Maybe we could start some of those but tell them to check out AR, it would stick with a few I am sure. Ever see how many people actually read and send those things? You would be amazed... I bet even... you do! |

Noooooooooooo!
Even we can't step so low as to use... forwarding! It's evil! We can't be reduced to some fad'y retarded 13-year-old girl MUD. That is totally out of the question. |

We get plenty of new players on a daily bases. Problem is, they are not sticking around. |

I think one thing we need to do is rethink the idea of the mud-school. More importantly, I don't think we should have one. When people make a character they don't want it followed by having to trudge through a boring mud-school. They want to get out there and play.
I think mud-school should be replaced with an optionally skippable tutorial which starts a player out in Seringale and guides them through things like, showing them their guild (which would teach them movements) and showing them where they can go to level, gain equipment, etc, and with every step teaching them basic mud commands.
To go along with this I think Seringale should have an area just outside (likely near the plains of the north, or in it) with mud-school equivilent mobs. This will give new players more of a sense that they're really playing the game instead of going through a mud-school.
This allows for instant immersion, instead of being in an isolated mud school you're learning everything in a bustling city full of people. |

This is how it works without a mudschool.
1. Connect into Seringale probably a temple
2. Wander around Seringale thinking wtf..?
3. Oh look a beggar. kill beggar muahahaha
4. Oh look a cityguard. kil cityguard muahaha.. oh shit DEAD
5. Drop link |

I was thinking, what are the factors that hook a noobie and bring him/her back to play again? well i thought of what I personally look for initially when i log on to any mud.
1. cool looking skills and spells on skill/spell list, and it also shows me what lvl the mud goes up to roughly
2. walk around and make sure there are no northeast or southwest directions.
3. make sure there is a nice space between my prompt and the room description
4. when i check who list, i look for people with cool looking clan/cabal tags (hopefully at least two or three), immortals, and people with restrung titles
5. score and practice menus that look cool and are easy to read
6. helpful mud school mobs that do not say retarded things like what the training sword used to whisper. a tutorial system that is optional and does NOT impose it on me, meaning i can bypass it and explore if i want to
7. some helpful people on newbie or gossip or ooc channel
8. any immediate show of good rp from someone
9. any rumors on the forum or in game about top pkers/dominant players that currently play on the mud
10. a line somewhere on the mud description on the website that says the imms look to balance the mud and bust cheaters
So I think these are the first things we can do to make the mud more ATTRACTIVE to the new person who has ALREADY CONNECTED. These are obviously different from getting our name out there and getting people to try connecting in the first place. |

^ Piggybacking on #1 (spells, skills).. I would say many interesting races and classes too (bring back psis and druids damnit .. slightly expanded race/class combo options would also help).

There is a rare being called Baer on AR.
You can get a restung title by sucking by sucking him long. Sucking him hard. |

Make a note about which classes and races are the more newbie friendly ones, so they don't get frustated with a tough to play class/race combo. Like how it says Seringale is reccomended for newbies. (Forgive my bad spelling) |

I'm going to spell out the problem with our retaining players (newbies and returning vets) in one word.
Gankers. |

You know I must've been pretty drunk when I posted that because I don't remember doing it at all. Also, it makes no sense. |
