I've been looking around for a guide on religion and what it does, and I can't find anything. What's the pros and cons?

Right now? Very little. It gives you an additional rp standpoint, IE My god hates your god die! Otherwise halfling healers I think it is? Get a special bonus for picking the right god, wherein they get extra power in their shrine or something. I suspect more will come later, but that will be after they finish projects they are working on now I think.

I have received Tyrone's Favor just by entering the area his shrine is located but I have no idea what it does for you. Perhaps when the time is right Olyn and the other Imms will let us know more.

Yo, this would be a good time to make suggestions. Pros and cons can be considered.

Basically though, the god you choose espouses some beliefs, and you join that leader because you have the same ones. Like you might believe in being altruistic, which makes you a fit for Sedgwick. Much like alignment, ethos, race, and class, religions are not there for you to affect things like what spells you get and which mobs you should kill, but it also affects how you act in general. (Figure out the belief first and then find the religion that fits it)
