The skill is a mystery to me...is it a defensive talent like dodge, parry and the rest? I have been told that it is in fact a defense, working on the same scale as the others defenses upon mastery. In my experience with the warrior classes I have never seen it work in that capacity, on occassion you will riposte hitting your opponent for a mediocre amount of damage. If it is indeed a defensive talent, which order does it come in--before or after parry, shield, dodge, dual parry? Some clarification?

It's a extra defense that counters with an extra minor hit. Wait, thas giving riposte too much credit. You will rarely see it ever happening... It's there to waste your practices. =)

Riposte is very hard to master with all your other defenses mastered and if you play all night on a 50 either fighting or EQ hunting, you might see 10 ripostes.

Perhaps my question was worded a bit wrong. I am aware that the skill would be difficult to master, I was more concerned on how the actual skill worked. My question is this..is riposte an actual defense..do you riposte like parry..meaning do you defend the attack with riposte..as in avoiding being hit and then as a bonus hit them back, or is riposte the actual act of hitting after a defense (parry, dodge etc.) has already avoided the attack?

It is a defense.

'RIPOSTE'

With their extensive training in combat skills, warriors have the ability to
evade their opponent's attack, look for an opening in their opponent's
defenses, and land a minor attack on their opponent. The skill riposte is
that ability.

Here's an example of how the skill appears in combat:

Quote:
Joebob blocks your attack and attempts to strike at the brief opening.
Joebob's riposte misses you.

The first part is a defense, which blocks the attack. The second part of the skill is a counterattack, which has a chance to hit (just like any other attack). It's quite a useful skill, so I'm curious why more people don't take advantage of it and train it. An extra defense (plus a chance for an extra hit when it works) is something I'm sure every other class would love to have. Dodge + parry + dual parry/shield block + riposte makes for a nice set of defenses.

Thanks for the input. Last question, has two part-actually it is two questions. First, can you riposte bare handed? Secondly what factors affect (to your knowledge) the effectiveness of riposte? I would think dexterity would have a major factor, then again dexterity seems to affect everything..any ideas?

You cannot riposte two handed, so you might train it with a two handed weapon (so you don't dual parry AND parry before riposte).

Far as I know it depends on strength and dexterity.
