'DESCRIPTION' Syntax: desc (opens editor) Syntax: desc <option> Options: desc + <string> add a line to the description desc - remove a line from the description desc edit open the advanced editor (type ,h in editor for help) desc format word-wrap description to 80 characters per line See EDITOR for information on using the desc editor. A description appears when other players "look" at you, just before they see your equipment. A description MUST describe concretely what other people see when they look at you. It is suggested to begin by conveying what race your character is. Obviously, your character will be seen through multiple perspectives - walking, sleeping, standing around. In the interests of promoting creativity, we allow additional physical characteristics such as voice, gait, common ticks (e.g. twitches) and posture to be included, as well as non-visual elements such as smells. Write in as much detail as you can, e.g. "He has black hair" may be extended to "His long black hair curls at its edges and bounces noticeably with every slight movement of his head." Try not to over-exaggerate features, and strive for originality. Generic hunk/babe/shadowy figure in a dark robe types do not break the rules, but neither do they win accolades. It is hard for a fire giant to not be overly tall and muscular, but no two are the same. Avoid guiding the reader through a forensic exam of your character, and consider adding an extension (help EXTEND) if you want to add deeper detail. Your description should not describe detailed clothing. Describing dark leather armor with glowing sigils, when you're wearing red dragon armor would be out of place. If you were to say "His armor has been let out a bit at the waist to accomodate his girth" This would accentuate the fact the character is overweight, without telling you how it actually looks. Small personal effects, such as trinkets and jewelry, are permitted in a limited quantity. Please make sure these are meaningful, e.g. to provide a glimpse into the personality, backstory or history of your character. Your description should focus on the sensory experience - sight, sound, and smell. It should not contain actions of any sort (e.g. Davairus says hello when you look at him) and it should not tell the reader how they feel (e.g. he makes you shiver) or what they think (e.g. he commands respect). It should not describe your personality, although a face can convey personality traits that may not be true for the character. It must not contain any of your history or bio. These should be left to your interactions with the other players inside the game world. As a viewer, please send us an INSANITY report for descs that break immersion to this degree. Your description must be completed by level 10 and we ask that it be at least five formatted lines long for a notable player character. Make it as memorable as you wish your character to be.
