HITROLL

'HITROLL' There are two schools of thought in the guilds that use weapons to conquer their opponents - to hit the most, and to hit the hardest. With races of all shapes and sizes in Serin, it is inevitable that some find one way naturally easier, and some are better suited to the other. Hitroll improves your chances of landing attacks and bypassing your opponent's defences. It serves two purposes in combat: Bypassing Armor Class Your hitroll is weighed against the opponent's armor class on a d20 roll to determine if each melee swing connects. Weapon proficiency scales the effectiveness of hitroll for this purpose - a fighter untrained in a weapon type will not benefit as much. Extreme values of both hitroll and armor class face diminishing returns. Overcoming Defensive Skills Hitroll reduces the chance of your attacks being dodged, parried, or otherwise deflected. Against other adventurers, the defender's stats provide a natural buffer before hitroll begins reducing their defense: PARRY, DUAL PARRY - offset by WISDOM DODGE, FEINT - offset by INTELLIGENCE STAFF BLOCK - offset by DEXTERITY SHIELD BLOCK - *not* affected by hitroll Against creatures, a portion of the defender's level serves as the offset. Creatures attacking adventurers have their hitroll applied at reduced effectiveness. Hitroll is sourced from dexterity, equipment, various enchantments from spells and songs, favored weapons, and some racial legacies. Note that the offhand weapon in dual wield suffers a hitroll penalty that lessens with level. Each weapon's hitroll enchantment applies only to its own hand.
