Do barrier/mana shield take vulns into account? If a gnome invoker used barrier, would bashing attacks eat up extra mana? |

I -believe- they take the amount of damage into account. |

I thought at one point that they changed Barrier so that vuln attacks passed through barrier. There was this log about it at one point... |

As far as I know, the damage received eats at mana instead of health, but magical attacks go through barrier like physical attacks go through mana shield. |

Let me get straight to the point: How does barrier interact with the gnome vulnerability to bashing physical damage? |

Last I checked, a gnome's barrier does not protect it from any of the blunt type strikes. Protective shield will protect it from being attacked via the bash/bodyslam skill. |

Physical blunt weapons going through barrier just because gnome has racial vuln makes zero sense.
Barrier should be universal, vs physical damage, why would gnome's vuln alter a spell? What makes gnomes cast a 'broken barrier' ?
No logic. |

it's a nerf to stop gnome invokers from killing everyone. It should be fixed but realistically it won't happen soon. It's better to have it this way than it is for gnomes to rape everyone |

yeah, the barrier should still mitigate some of it though. It shouldn't just pass straight through, that doesn't feel right at all. But it's a hard problem and fixing it wrong would be worse than not fixing it |

I suppose the reason behind gnomes having blunt vuln is due to their small and not so agile stature.
Like clubbing a printer with a baseball bat is more efficient than slicing it with a sword.
But barrier is a universal spell that has initially nothing to do with gnomes, just the mages and the capacity to learn and adapt it for themselves.
So my suggestion is that instead of barrier just not outright working for gnomes vuln for no logical reason it could make more sense to make the spell work mitigating the vuln, but due to gnome's inherit make it drain much more mana as it is much harder to maintain the upkeep when the incoming blows are just so tough on them.
Those sci-fi movies come to mind where people struggle real hard maintaining force field against villains who are "just too powerful to defend".
What ya think? |

I think the reason is that gnomes were OP before the vuln was added due to giant numbers in important stats. It used to be a way more severe vuln than it is now, if I remember my numbers right. |
