Holy christ, Vanisse. Looks like you need to get laid. Whatever happened to the 'namechange' room that, instead of wasting someone's time making a char, lets them just change their name?

A Room of Training
Weapons and scrolls meant for study rather than combat lie around this
chamber of training. It has been decorated with only the bare essentials
necessary for tutoring new adventurers in the ways of might, wit, endurance,
agility and acuteness of mind. This is one of the most understated rooms in
the Tower, for a visit here is vital to all new adventurers.

Name was Presbeterian, didn't realize it actually meant something. Not like the name was Roflcopter or Gotsexdotcom.

Yeah well, can I tell you a story?

Had a char named Merihim (on second thought could have been Mirihem, all the same still a completely role-play founded and fairly unique name).

Ronus then tells me that I have to change it because it sounds too much like "marry him" ..... ...... ....

Now where I'd like to begin on a profanity filled rant on Ronus' intelligence or lack thereof I do respect the immortal population as a whole so I'll bite my tongue.

However, I will say Ronus sounds like "Bonus" in fact it is "bonus" with an R, he needs to change it now.

I don't understand how people go their whole lives (even if you're not dead yet) and not know what Presbyterian means, though.

The fact that you were one letter away from a division of the Christian religion and "didn't realize it actually meant something" sounds like total b.s. to me, Kal... c'mon, seriously.

Actually Vhrael until you just sayd it sounded like a division of the christian church the name sayd very little to me. Kinda sounded familiar from somewhere but I was not sure from where. Not everyone cares for christianity or its different divisions. And Merihim seems a lot less like marry him than Ronus like Bonus.

Actually it sounds exactly the same. To anyone who ever heard of it in any context.

This is a matter of immersion. And Kalist as a vet should be/is well aware of it. It is up to the immortal staff to try and keep AR's "fantasy" feel.
e.g. what would you think if you logged on a "RP enforced" mud and were helloed by Hamburgaro and his groupmate Hawtdogg...

The fact that you are not "aware" of something does not excuse you.
I'd have to be with Vhrael on this one, never heard of it? Cmon...

And to tell Vanisse to go get "laid", how petulant and hissy can you get to run to the forums and complain over this minor matter. Perhaps someone is up for some of his own remedy:)

On the account of funny renames Ronus forced me to change name because char's name was partly name of one of Thailand's national parks "Mu Ko Phetra"... Calling Vanisse overzealous... pffft

We've told the name enforcement Immortals that they don't have to rename difficult people - they can just throw them into hell. So if you're a guy with a site history picking a dumb name, you can probably look forward to rerolling. We expect vets to be on the same page as us when it comes to the game rules.

This isnt an obscure russian/german word. Its Kalist picking a cheese name again, which we Imms consider to be showing contempt for the game rules. It isn't the first time Kalist has made a thread somewhere to complain about Imms either, and I don't see anyone else continously making them. Can anyone else see where this is going?

I still would like Ronus to be forced into a name change like I was for "Marryhim".

Why is everyone getting their panties in a bunch about this? So you had to change your name, big deal.

The thing I don't understand is that it's not even a newb that's complaining... it's a veteran player.

It's real easy....

You think of a cool name, it sounds awesome.... but you don't know if its a real word or not because you aren't a walking dictionary...Before you start rolling follow these simple steps:

Go to www.google.com (or your prefered search engine)

Search for the name you picked

If you get a suggestion for a mispelled word that is pretty similar to what you wanted, or if you find tons of webpages with the name you wanted, you should probably change it.

I sometimes use a name generator for ideas and even a lot of those names are pretty common on the internet (company names, books, etc). Try to find something original.. it makes you look cooler and smarter if your name isn't a copy of something well known.

For example--this is what comes up when you search for Presbeterian:

Did you mean: Presbyterian

4th Presbeterian Church (2)
Keywords: america, building, buildings, chicago, church, illinois, north america, people, presbeterian, religious, united states, usa, vertical ...
www.danheller.com/images/UnitedStates/Illinois/Chicago/Buildings/Slideshow/img12.html - 21k - Cached - Similar pages

Mt Zion Presbeterian Chruch Records
Antebellum Church Records. ... Mt. Zion Cumberland Presbyterian Church Located west of Falkner, Mississippi ********* Original Minutes of session meetings ...
www.rootsweb.com/~mstippah/MZChurch.html - 52k - Cached - Similar pages

With that, only a retard wouldn't get it.... so you shouldn't have any excuse for bad names, especially as an experienced player.

I am a bit curious what race/class combo Kalist's "Presbeterian" was. If it was a Knight wanna-be/goodie there should be no mercy.

I just tried this with every imm's name I could think of, only Sethronu and Vhrael passed.

Because google has such an increidbly large information base it is not a useful tool for varifying names. A better bet would be www.dictionary.com.
