I write this merely because it seems that most of you are so involved in the main stream that you seem to overlook some of the best. The Elric Saga, The Song of the Black Sword, and the Dream-Thief's Daughter all of which are written by Michael Moorcock are all excellent reads. He came shortly after Tolkien, and refers to the Hobbits as plump, child-like, immature etc. etc. I am without the book so I refrain from misquoting. Elric is everything but, he is the anti-hero. For those that have not readit I highly recommend ..just got a serious flash back from the reading rainbow...

Maybe it's not that people are so involved in the 'mainstream,' but that nobody else wanted to be the first one to bring up a guy with the last name of "Moorcock" (well, maybe with the exception of Seryie or Baer...).

Sorry, that was bad, but I couldn't let it go...

Thought I would jump in the interesting discussion between Lord of the Rings and The Wheel of Time, upon which is 'more satisifying'. Thus far I have heard people say that the Lord of the Rings is much more satisifying because it is a difficult read. Sorry, but as I am like Avendin I can sit down and read a 500 page novel in about 2 hours or roughly there abouts, I can tell you that LOTR is definatly not difficult to digest in a few sittings. As for it being easier to read then the Wheel of Time I can also tell you that the books in so far to date have been amazing to my mind. The complexity used comes from the mind of a deranged yet genious writer. Dont get me wrong I love LOTR and I think that J.R.R Tolkien did an amazing job recreating a story from the Bible. Dont beleive me, look it up. The film editors even released the movie on days that have significance in the Christian community. Wheel of Time is based (if only barely) on many many different novels and its creativity in using these ideas to compose an entirely new story is a refreshing way.

I like them both, love them both even, as they are BOTH wonderful stories. I enjoy reading Wheel of Time much more because I always catch something new when I re-read it. Yes its a long series, and yes some times it can be very slow yet life doesnt happen in the snap of the fingers. It takes time.
