|
|
I completely understand the reasons behind lagging the hell out of these spells, because it promotes better PK through the elimination of quick escapes.
BUT....
Is there any way the lag can be toned down for loss of concentration?
Screwing up two gates leaves you sitting there like a retard for just over a full tick.
I'm not complaining for escaping PK reasons, if plausible I try to stick it out anyhow, it's just a waste of time, and underminds the usefullness of gate, which is the most offensive of the related spells because it's often quicker to walk to your destination than gate there.
---EDIT---
Perhaps linking this to adrenaline or being bloody or something? That way if you are simply using gate as a transportation\offensive use, the penalty is less? |

You can actually fit in 3 gates in a tick.
And uh, use gate some more. You'll have it mastered before you hit 50. |

It's not about the proficiency, per se, it's more like trying to gate to targets that aren't there, too far above your level, etc.
It's that the usefulness of the spells, gate in particular, has been sorely gimped. The psi/healer versions are more of a defensive tool.
If they want it to improve PK and limit the psi/healer/illusionist from gating away from trouble, that's fine with me. Why not enforce the lag when your adrenaline is rushing?
Even a total newb can at least get the jump on someone once and a while, and this would prevent gate from being abused for fleeing.
That's just my thoughts on it. If they were looking to avoid the easy escape, it should have been linked to adrenaline, or being bloody. Not gimping the whole spell.
Oh well. |

I agree. Its a good idea, especially in the realism sense. Pumping adrenaline would most definately have a detrimental effect on the concentration and focus it would take to cast such a demanding and complex spell as a dimensional gate. Therefore it would take a longer and more intensely focused and concentrated effort on the casters part to cast the spell, hence the lag.
Whereas, being calm and relaxed, the spellcaster is able to focus and concentrate much easier on a spell he is very familiar with, so in a relaxed state he should be able to cast the spell a bit faster. |

Very easy. Ever watched, say, two people at a re-enactment. Even the best of swordsman, football players, or basketball players loose their concentration under pressure. Mastering a skill means you have reached the best porficency any mortal can have with that skill, relism is: mortals are not 'perfect' so the skill will mess up. Therefore,, mayhaps tone down the lag and add the other above mentioned effects. There does need to be some lag, but maybe a little less than what there is. Say perhaps, knock a 1/4 of the lag time off, and if at such and such condition (pretty hurt, etc.) skill porficency is docked by so much, or a dampener is put on the chance of you casting the spell?
---Edit:----
Just as an example of a 'master' messing up, look at Michael Jordan when he came back. Or Shaq missing all them freethrows . Sorry, couldn't resist. |

Still Shaq sucks and Micheal well thats different but still warriors always land shit when things are mastered so I think it should be the same with spells mages are at a HUGE disadvantage if they don't get better spells like hellstream |
