|
|
A few people expressed a desire for staff to get involved in running quests, and I said that I loved the idea too, but was really tired out. Well, thanks to completion of 99% of the cabal stuff I wanted to do, and also passed some important benchmarks area-wise, I can say I've got time on my hands for it now.
So this is the first serious one I'm doing in a long time.. just don't expect it to be flawless, right now I am going into it blindly because I don't know what sort of turn-out to expect.
First, the note:
Quote: |
Lore tells that the abhorrent demon Zaikkra was summoned from the Underworld
into Thera by a group of evil mages known as the Mystics. When the Mystics
summoned this psychopath, little did they know that he would eventually imprison
them all in the Underworld while he set about his own conquest of Thera.
A long struggle against the armies of the abyss resulted in the decimation of
Thera, much evil has flowed into Thera since then. Fortunately this influx has
been stopped. However, this demon still lurks within Thera, in a place of safety
none yet know. Here he cackles with delight as he brings great ills upon mortal
skills and spells, using the power of the stolen Mystic's Ancient Globe of the
Arcane, which he guards jealously.
The only way to begin banishing this terror now, naturally, is to summon him again,
precisely as the Mystics once did thinking it would be their salvation. This
time, it will be for his beheading. However, this is no longer an easy task.
Zaikkra has foreseen this outcome long ago, and his strongest abyss-spawned
servants now protect the seven soulstones that made the summoning circle. Along
with the mightiest of demons, Sheundan and Xymeria to undead terrors such as Xanthak
and Shycerusk, he has ensured his dominion over this realm.
The fate of Mystics hangs in the balance. Will you refuse to forgive and help evils
to obtain the soulstones for their own selfish ambitions? Or will you help the Light,
restore the summoning circle, and return the Ancient Globe to where it belongs?
It is your tale to finish, Thera... |
So, here's the quest. Its basically just a big old gauntlet, and if you've ever played the game "gauntlet" you'll know what I mean. Face the seven area bosses, beat them, use the treasures you earned to earn a date with the grand daddy of them all. Luckily, I'd left this guy Zaikkra dormant til I felt like using him again..
Here is what I'd recommend...
* party of level 45-50's (it doesnt *have* to be level 50 guys, since when you mobdeath these days, you'll only go back to start of level, instead of a 90k exp hole, but then again there's no point flinging level 30s at level 60 mobs)
* a truckload of clerics.
The guys are tough so you'll need to band together. Well, I can name guys that soloed almost every mob on the list (and that's no joke, I could probably name five), but I don't really advise that. Nor do I say don't.
Now... if you read the note details, you'll see the reward offered and understand why this is really tough. I wanted to get off to an ambitious start. But if this proves as good as I'm hoping, I'll by all means run a little stupid quest every time I put a new weapon in the game or something.
Incase it wasnt clear:
- ending A = revival of the Mystics
- ending B = i pull the plug (probably when it looks like nobodys bothering =p)
- join the effort to end this, or just kill people who have stones, whichever you'd rather be
- ask the Imms where to go if you need to.. I want them to take part too
- do your best
If you're not in possession of a level 50, I'm sorry. But that's what the goal is here. Get an important level 50 and you'll get to take part in this "level" of important rp. Big things for big people. There'll be less important stuff other Imms can think of for lowbies to get involved in, I'm sure, but I'm going to be looking at things to entertain 50's to kick this off. |

It sounded more from the note that Goods were going to kill the thing and get mystics back, and Evils were also going to kill it or do something else for another reward - not just not getting mystics back.
But, from your endings, it sounds like goods and evils can sort of work for the same goal to get mystics back. Is that right? |

Its just that they're really hard to get, so any evil could easily just kill you and take the item (and the reward). That's an individual choice. I figured Legion would rather do that for instance. |

I think the people who finally finish the quest should get to decide what happens. They should have the option of either destroying the ancient globe, thus preventing Mystics from ever coming back, or going through with the quest. There should be something to prevent one person from making the decision, and prevent it from happing the moment they decide, some kind of huge wait that could allow another group to steal the globe and prevent it's destruction. Or do this with the soulstones instead of the globe, since I don't know how this thing actually goes.
Basically, I'm imagining a group of greedy mages who want to know everything about the arcane trying to revive the mystics (I'm sure this will actually just be Xerties and anyone else he can interest in it) and perhaps various people willing to crusade against the mages to prevent those who summoned this great evil in the first place from ever returning the Thera (this I imagine would be people who really hate fappers). Now, the whole point of implementing things like this is that it will give lots of people reason to kill each other over this quest. I'm sure Davairus can appreciate that much. |

I'm fine with that. First guy to finish it chooses where mystics go. I wouldnt mind having to activate them first by keeping it in an altar for a few hours, but that probably wouldnt be much more than nuisance anyway right now. Baby steps first. |

Keep this in mind when you post in this thread, that I'm considering responses for any future "special" quests I feel inclined to do. If you guys don't want to put any effort into these quests, I won't either. It is up to you. |

Quest: The Seven Stones
1) Collect the seven stones from the ubers: Complete
2) Summon Zaikkra in the sewers: Complete
3) Track Zaikkra down to his Winter hideout for the final battle: Complete
4) Return with the globe of Arcane to Timaran: Complete
5) Help Reconstruct the Ivory Tower: In Progress...
As you can see, the format I proceeded with is not really much different to all the quests already in the game, just that parts 4 and 5 are the additional stuff that made it all worth it.
The reconstruction of ivory tower depends on mortals too, each room must be described by a unique, distinct mortal. Its going to be sitting in Timaran where the Rest is. You may have noticed the little stuff on the side about Odile moving out. This is because we are consolidating Heralds into Seringale's poker tavern to make room for the Mystics. More on that later.
If you missed out on this part, there's still time to catch up and stake your claim on a room in the ivory tower. Just talk to some of the Heralds and Noliperus about it. There's plenty that still needs to be done, so contact them if you're interested in helping out. |

Now that Mystics are back, a couple questions assuming people can join them...
What's the class/align/ethos restrictions? I don't remember from back when they used to be around.
And can people apply now? |

You should be more worried about what Mystics will be coming back as. You already know that they're a coterie and not a cabal, for example. For all you know, you may be salivating over the opportunity to join the shit-shoveler's coterie, condemned to shovel shit for all eternity due to their part in Zaikkra's original invasion. Or something similar. |

Damnit, where is that tower? I want Mystics open. You lazy slobs, get some work done and stop goofing around on those mortals.
(I'm loving this tables turned thing) |
