I have always wanted the ability to choose an age at creation, because I feel like it can add depth to a character. For elves, half-elves, drows, gnomes and all other manner of creatures that can live extended lives, 17 is too young to even put your pants on alone.
So vote! |

I completely fricken agree. The whole 18 year old thing is ridiculous and is RP limiting. |

As different races have different lifespan, it is very weird to have everyone put on the same age category.
Aging should be something that occurs naturally dependant on the race you choose, you start out as a young one. But your years should be different the same.
For example an elf invoker should be twice as old as a human warrior for say.
Also, age should directly affect one's stats. Becoming of old age would mean less strength and con, but increased wisdom and intelligence for an example.
Those of young age would gain bonus to strength and con and penalty to int and wis.
Age could be "reset" upon visiting something like a fountain of youth, that could be made into a quest or a dangerous journey.
Age could also be reset upon death, for you are born again after your resurrection.
Depending on the class you pick, you would start off as a different age. Warrior would start younger, mage would start older.
Humans have smallest age multiplier, elves and other ancient races have the biggest age multiplier. That means that humans age quick while ancient races age slow. |

If we're going to put in business about ages, then we ought to make aging tied to creation date rather than hours played. I've always thought it was weird that I could get older than someone just because they went on vacation for a week or something. |

I was thinking a simple process.
Elves may choose a starting age of (40-250)
Dwarves may choose a starting age of (35-100)
Humans may choose a starting age of (17-35)
Those numbers are pulled straight out of my ass, but I think I got the point across. I'm not talking about, "Hah! I can pick ancient!" Also, I don't think it is necessary to even create a base or set age limit, as far as how aged a race can get.
As far as age related illness, or deterioration is concerned, that feels like an rp thing to me. "emote stands up slowly, grimacing." or "emote cups his ear with a hand, making a face." say "Speak up, punk."
I don't think it is necessary to change anything other then that starting race and make it chosen by the person for their rp. |

I don't have a strong opinion on this one, as long as age remains purely cosmetic. I mean that in the sense that it's an RP tool, not an incentive to idle at lvl 5 for 3 years so you get extra practices and mana gains for +1 wis later on, or a str/dex gimp because you actually kept your character for a while.
I wouldn't mind if we kept the "trackable" part of this as categories, rather than numbers.
Example:
Code: |
AR currently has:
38 Senior Citizens
198 Adults
168 Adolescents |

I agree with Olyn. I think it should be purely cosmetic.
I love the tracking aspect. Make sure to add "Venerable Old Ones" and "Honorable Not-quite-dead-yet Ancestors". [/code] |

Will also be hilarious when people try to RP themselves as an ancient (read: ultimate) being and get slapped around ... You're 1000 years old of course you suck at fleeing!
I'm for it as long as Heralds get new reputations like "Frequently attacks the elderly" |

I agree that being forced to start at the age of 17 is limiting on the RP side of things. So giving the option during creation to adjust your age accordingly sounds fine with me.. Purely cosmetic though, as Olyn stated. |

Definitely tie age into creation date, rather than hours played. |
