I read here on the forums that you should get +15 save break. I see there are three primary categories for that - aff, mental, and mal. My question is, can you only spread those +15 points in the three categories or is a caster able to stack +15 points into each individual savebreak category? |

Yeah I have newbie question related to this too... does it stack? Does a ten save break plus a five equal fifteen? Does a ten save break plus a five mal break give fifteen to mal break? Is there a reason this isn’t shown in the score sheet? |

You can have save breaks for different categories, but doing that can be costly. Most all of the save-break items you find take hp from you as a cost to being able to overcome armor. Some of the strongest save-breaks in the game break save VS spell instead of one of the three elements which potentially targets all three. (doesn't work quite like that, but not going to explain that, too technical.) Anyway, save-breaks of the same type do not stack. If you wear two 5 aff breaks you only have 5 aff. It uses the strongest break of that category and ignores the rest. |

I think this will answer both of your questions. From help save break:
Code: |
Savebreaks do not stack. When wearing multiple savebreaking items, only the
highest savebreak value in each category counts toward one's ability to
savebreak. Savebreaking items are of no use to non-spellcasters. |
All three savebreaks are calculated separately.
+15 is the "max" only because we chose not to make more powerful ones to wear, not because there's a limit in the game's code
"spellbreak" items also exist. Wearing a 7 spellbreak item is the same as wearing a 7 aff item, a 7 mal item, and a 7 mental item |

One thing that I've heard that I also do not know for sure if it's true or not is this:
If you're wearing all save_vs_spell equipment, your saves can only be broken by a spell break item and not the regular old aff_break. |

Ergorian, I remember hearing that a long time ago as well. It is not true. There is no difference between the benefits of the maledictive protection of save vs mal gear/spells and save vs spell gear/spells. Essentially your character's working mal save is (40 + the sum of your mal gear/affects + the sum of your save_vs_spell gear/affects).
Similarly, there is no difference in the way a spellbreak item and a malbreak item with the same bonus attack the opponent's saves. Your character's effective mal break is the single highest malbreak or spellbreak item/affect on your character. |
