'DYING/DEATH'
Every character gets a total of 61 lives. The Grim Reaper claims a CON
point for every 5 deaths you suffer. After 61 deaths, your character's soul
will be too weak for the temple priests to locate in the ether, and will
pass away permanently - a process known as "condeath".
When your character dies, it is reincarnated back at the recall point
of the character's chosen hometown and alignment choice (e.g. good align
characters with Seringale hometown will be in the Temple of Light). After
the reincarnation, you will remain an untouchable ghost for about ten
minutes. A corpse is left behind in the room where the character was killed,
containing all of its equipment and gold.
You should typically look for your corpse to retrieve your belongings.
Steps to find your corpse:
1) Get back to the area you died in. (e.g. walk down, if you died in the
newbie academy). If you know the name of the area you died in, you can
use the
WAYFIND command or
WORLDMAP to help navigate back there.
2) Use the
WHERE and
MAP commands to help you find your body once you
are in the area where you fell. Corpse is a "C" on the map.
3) Get your items from the body. (
GET ALL CORPSE)
Eventually, the protection of being a ghost will wear off, and at precisely
the same time, the corpse will decompose, transferring any items and gold
that it contained to your temple's pit of offering (found near your
hometown recall point - typically the room next door). If you have been
unable to find your corpse by the time you are unghosted, the pit of offering
will contain everything that was in it just before it decayed.
You may need to strategize - if you were totally lost when you died, or
considerable time, effort and danger (especially unghosting) are needed to
reach the corpse, then waiting by the pit of offering may well be the better
choice. However, be aware that the pits are a free-for-all, and can be looted
by other players, and the same goes for your corpse. Opportunists will
notice a fallen player waiting by their pit, and the corpse is vulnerable
to being found with the
LOCATE OBJECT spell.
Deaths are a learning experience everyone goes through. You are SUPPOSED to
die. This world is filled with perils invented to challenge you. Don't let
a setback discourage you from accomplishing your goals. Some tips from
veterans for surviving in this realm are in
HELP TIPS.
