Not taking away anything from Codael, but this log is absolutely not an indication that rangers are overpowered.
perhps I wasn't clear though, at 50 they may be fine, but having so many pets at such low levels is like a fire giant without damage caps harvesting newbies. But Im sure you're simply defending rangers because thats all you play clif, you'd probably have babies with the class if you could.
That said, you were definitely not clear enough when you said rangers are overpowered, because they're not. If you had said that rangers are good at a certain niche like you seem to say in your clarifying post, people might be less inclined to say that you're wrong. Also, I'll just give the common response here before somebody else does: "If you think they're so overpowered, play one yourself and show us all how overpowered rangers are."
That said, I'm pretty reasonable to talk to if you don't come into the situation looking like a complete idiot, which I will claim you did in your first post, and continue to do in your second post. My flame post wasn't directed at the post, it was directed specifically at your comment. And I'll stick by my statement that you should learn how to pk, thereby knowing a means to counter rangers, before you post.
Secondly, my cheese class is and always will be illusionists, not rangers. Because, with mirror images I can make multiple of me to mud sex with.
2. Two pets--do you have any idea how little HP ranger pets have? A few good fireballs, or a couple rounds from a decently equipped warrior, and they're dead.
3. 3 defenses--let's use logic here. You think bow skills are overpowered, but then point out they have 3 defenses. If they're using a bow, they don't have 3 defenses, they have two.
4. Warrioresque anti-escape bow skills--Umm. No. Wounding shot is nowhere near the same level as hobble/bash/trip.
5. Fighter like HP--not true. More like DK like HP, if that. Less if elf or half elf.
6. Dirt kick--And? Half the classes in the game now are effectively immune to dirt kick, long as they keep protective shield up. And if they let their spells fall, then that's always been a reason for mages to die.
But really this isn't the full story...Codael kept claiming he was from Valour and I was oathed at the time so I didn't see him as a threat...And I'd lost all my armor to someone while disconnected.
BTW: If who ever raped me of all my rares while I was disconnected is reading this...post a log of that?
DK/Invoker--Fireball. Already discussed. With the low armor class on pets, the worst you'll get is a DISEMBOWELS, but far more likely you'll hit triple stars.
Berserker/warrior--With their defenses, they probably won't get hit much by pets regardless. However, if you want to get rid of them, it shouldn't take more than a few rounds. Then it's fighter class vs. fighter class with less combat skills.
Paladin--Flamestrike. Big damage because of the low armor class, and chance to blind. Blind pets do next to nothing.
Necro/Shaman--Blindness. See above.
Ninja--Blindness dust. See above.
Illusionist--If you are at the point where you can get two illusions, pets aren't much of a problem. Before that, you should be running away with illusionists anyway.
Thief--A bit harder than some of the others. I think you used to be able to blackjack pets, but not sure about now. Even so, a nice dual backstab will take out a pet in one shot. Then you can deal with the other one melee style or just focus on the ranger.
Healer--Divine retribution used to work wonders on pets, but I understand it's not what it used to be. I have no idea how to fight with a healer these days.
So there you have it. Pets on a low level ranger are no more overpowered than plenty of other skills in the game. Are rangers stronger in low levels than some classes? Yes. Are they overpowered in those levels? No.
you're going to hang a whole paladins success on a chance to blind spell?
youre forgetting rank advantage comparing blind spells to beating pets with certain classes. how often do you successfully blind a mob 5 levels above you with the spell? never? thought so. this is the same reason the amount of zombies a necro was allowed to have was toned down in the lower ranks.
blinded pet for a ranger? release and call another. wasted mana for that spell? absolutely.
niching. using superior rank and abilities for a certain level range to gank the "competition".

--I'm not forgetting anything. Try blinding ranger pets, and then tell me if its as hard as blinding a mob five levels above. You'll find it's not.
--It was my understanding that you can't just call pets anymore on demand. Even when you could, there was a long delay on beast call. It's not hard to blind a pet, then if the ranger releases it, blind the new one again. It really isn't a big waste of mana.
It was kind of funny how I walked in with sanc, waited for a second, walked out, and THEN attacked - I hadn't set my alias yet, so it didn't do anything...
and to answer your question esura, clifton started the flamefest game. I enjoy playing it too just like he does for the same reason we both play AR. for amusement.

I didn't. For each class with low HP and/or defenses, I gave a way to deal with pets THAT DID NOT INVOLVE just tanking them.
Learn to read. It helps with text-based games.
