pardon the lack of the pre-fight. She did a simple intrusion to get me to come to her, and we had two fights like this. In the second one I died and was purified, but luckily I was rare purged and had neutral eq on me anyway. We basically got neck and neck hp values in the end fight but I died. And now its time for a little revenge right after death.

Long, moss covered branches block almost all the light coming from the
sun, leaving pockets of inky blackness. The close-growing trees are covered
generously in a pale gray fungus, which gives off a faint odour of rot and
decay. The heights of the trees are lost in shadows, but from the width of
the trunks, they probably reach to the heavens. Pockets of ants,
nightcrawlers, and other larvae skitter along the fungii and leaves that
surround you. Wisps of spider webs hang from the odd branch, giving an odd
hairy look to them. The ground underfoot is spongy with vegetation, both

    why don't more ill uses the phantom dragon spell. I never seriously played one, but fought a bunch and its always terrain misdir. Did you just use it because you assumed his mental saves were gone?

    these rounds show how I cast phantom dragon before she goes to sleep, she wakes up, and then she casts hellstream, all before the dragon hits her.

    All a person has to do is flee and they've gotten a free round of combat on an illusionist, wasting illusionist health and mana.

    Most people do this successfully, which is why you always see illusionists terran and misdirect. If you land these two spells, fleeing from illusionists is harder because you'll flee into walls or the ground, causing "you cannot go that way", afaik.

    that also means that its actually possible to land these damage illusion spells and actually have them hit before someone flees.

    it was a reasonable choice here because theres no sanctuary and only one exit, and I had more health. everything in that scenario screamed 'cast damage spells".

    if you're actually trying to chase down and kill someone otherwise, you need to switch to affbreak and spam colour spray. so to sum up, its like the Sun Tzu "Winning means making no mistakes, for it means beating an enemy who is already defeated. You can know how to win without eing able to do it. "

    any fight revolves around one person making less mistakes. Caid made more by not fleeing or wording and trying to stand ground vs an illusionist that cast these spells. You can bet that won't happen again, and then its back to a grueling damage race with colour spray and terrain/misdirect.

    another way I could've won would've been getting two good illusions really quick and gating to her and simply coning her with no sanctuary. that also might've worked, but maybe it would cause her to immediately try flee and wording. Its like that other ST quote "dont press an enemy too hard, always leave an opening".

    if you dont they'll either gtfo right quick or start doing something unpredictable. control their choices by presenting them with options that seem reasonable.

    this pretty much sums up everything that went into the decision to cast it. I also got very lucky, because being an elf, they usually get rid of those illusion spells after one or two rounds, and she wasn't wearing feeblemind.

    recently I noticed that when a mob fleed from me with these damage spells working on them, they fled and then got damaged after the fact. Maybe it was an effect of coding counting the round, the round not occouring beore the flee, and then the round hitting right after flee, but it looked a lot like parting shot or pincer attack damage. maybe it's been changed to actually hit enemies at least once even if they flee. would be nice..

    I shouldn't really say its shitty, its just really really really situational. the benefit of it is you get damage while you can cast other things, like a temporary round based invoker fire shield.
