Valindra nods thoughtfully, her chins wobbling. You say 'Of this group of adventurers, Gwevym and Toland have perished. Ilromie and Kali are behaving with extreme bloodthirst.' You say 'I do not know Chayvudd myself, and Ocelia may be immune due to her Acadian nature.' Valindra says 'I should like to inspect this Chayvudd then.' You say 'A second indicator is this: prior to my departure, I assisted Ilromie and others in gathering the seven stones a first time.' You say 'They were stored in her mansion, on a mantel, neatly arranged.' Valindra rummages in the desk for a quill, and she jots a few notes on a parchment as you continue speaking. You say 'There was a day, before I had to leave, that a drow by the name of Chaszmyr broke into her mansion, stole the stones, and sought to release Zaikkra himself.' Valindra tilts her head to the side. You say 'When he did so, he brought a shaman and Pauwyr along.' You say 'He and the shaman have perished. Pauwyr, again - a quasit: a being from another plane.' Valindra murmurs, clucking like a chicken, 'Mischief demons . . .' You say 'If these stones are so powerful, it is a possibility that prolonged exposure to their corruption may have affected Ilromie.' Valindra says 'Who holds the stones now?' You say 'But this is all only a theory.'

Our last column was such a success that we've been invited to expand Wit and Whispers into a full-length feature. Who's we, you might ask? Why, me and the wisp in my pocket, Hibbadibbity. Her tips on body-switching spells will have you crowing, "Wait a second, whose body is this?!"
Now with some gossip to whet your appetite:
Knock, knock. Who's there? Well, certainly not the Legion, whose dwindling membership and absent leadership have left the cabal a husk of its former self. Will a new Forsaken arise to restore glory to this once great and terrible house? Will Thorgoth descend from the sky to smite me for my impertinence? Will the Minister re-emerge with a freshly shaven back and an even larger appetite for destruction? Only time--or, failing that, I--will tell.
Keeper? No, thanks--I've already got two. Despite an apparent glut of applications for the cabal, all this roving reporter sees is a trove of rare items flooding the realms and a balance shifted decidedly in one direction. Will the Keepers return to disperse these prevailing winds, or are they truly the scavengers of the realm some would call them?

I must write to you of an incident that occurred just recently. I spoke with the goblin witch, Valindra, today about my theory. As we spoke, I realized that I have been succumbing myself to the Stones' power. Gwevym's last gift was a sack containing not only his soul but all of his life's work. I had held it, secretly. At first I told myself it was because I had not found the right soul to entrust it to. But sir, I had sat with you, and I did nothing. I can only surmise then, that I have been exhibiting the signs of Avarice.
Valindra was central to this understanding, and for that I must thank her. I dropped the bag before her, and, thinking of your teachings, I agreed to send it to the gods. Before we began the ritual, I had doubts. Thoughts flashed through my mind - why had he chosen me? Was it a test? Then she plucked a flower from amidst the mountain, covered in Gwevym's blood, and said she would give it to Ilromie. I blanched then. The idea of giving his things to her when her words had driven him away made me ill. I left the little goblin there, to finish the ritual. I do not know if she did. But if she had not made such a gesture, perhaps I would not have had the courage to give up his earthly possessions.
When I fled from her, I sought Myrina's aid to wash my mind clean with battle. Some have said battle can wash away distractions. But it brought me no focus at all. I had located Valindra with his things still, while she wrote a publication suggesting the end of Paladins, and I thought I was such a fool to have left a goblin with a mountain of treasure. It was not until after I had recovered from my injuries and Myrina attempted to talk sense into me that I realized I must have been going mad. For the mountain was gone, and I had doubted a friend needlessly.
I retreated to my home to revisit your words and they anchored me once more. I must be careful, and stand firm, if I wish to be of any use to Ilromie. If I stray, I entreat you to guide me back to the Light by any means necessary.

Please do not be hard on yourself. You have suffered the loss of a friend. His final gifts to you were something that you cherished because of what they represented. You did not hoard them out of avariciousness, but out of pain for the loss. They were not valuable for their material worth, but for the lost relationship that they represented. You cannot fault yourself for holding them near, and protecting them. Your humility is abundently clear in your acceptance of your percieved faults. But do not be too meek, dearest giant, for you have power and strength unlike many in Serin. Your Spirit burns with a brighter and truer Light than nearly any. There are few with a Spirit closer to the purity of Light. Continue to reach out to me at any moment of need, or seek solace in whatever means you see fit. Continue to hold to the Virtues. But know this: In your quest to help right the wrongs of a friend, you see also your own mistakes. A truer example of virtue than that, I do not think there is. I trust you will be strong and hold true against any challenge that may face you. Which is good, for Ilromie will need your example and guidance through all of this. In fact I myself thank you for that example.
