Natural Selection

Most reptilian creatures live off basic animal instincts and the slith race within Serin is no different. Far from the marshes and wetlands and across the Sands of Sorrow there are lands full of caves and caverns. This is where the life of Vusko started. He was one of many born within a season to the Winterclaw clan. They were community hatchlings from birth and all in the clan were expected to contribute and support the young as they grew to adulthood. The hunters provided meals, the elders shared their knowledge and the others provided the training of individual skills and support for the community. After a few seasons passed the young brood of Slith matured into semi-adulthood and were ready for development. The first season started with basic techniques for the hunting and tracking of prey. The young slith started honing their hunting techniques on small game and once their hunts became successful they began stalking larger game and challenging themselves with more cunning prey. Eventually they were hunting difficult prey using pack hunting techniques and ambush tactics. From there the individual slith begun to specialize in these techniques to give their hunts greater chances of success. As the Slith continued to grow out of semi-adulthood the training began to evolve from hunting into the strategy of warfare. Many practice sessions were spent with one another in those developmental years, pushing each other for improvements and learning new skills and techniques. Vusko embraced the specialization of warfare and the direct combat that it ensued. He learnt to kill his prey with a variety of different weapon types and the individual advantages and disadvantages of each. He also learnt to take advantage of his natural reptilian instincts and adapt them into specialized abilities while engaging in combat. Once Vusko was fully trained and specialized in the art of war, a ceremony was to be conducted with an elder of the clan. This day Vusko was to pledge himself to the clan deity and embrace the path that many had walked before him. With the setting sun dropping behind the horizon, the clan gathered around a large fire with Vusko and an elder at the forefront. The elder shared the oral history of clan Winterclaw with all in attendance, along with their most revered legends and their accomplishments in battle. With all these tales swirling in his mind, Vusko knelt before the clan and pledged himself to the deity of their chosen one.
