A wide, sunken forehead looms over a pair of dark, dull animal eyes, which
themselves seem as lifeless as the eyes of death. His wide body is
complimented by giant, hard tree trunks for arms and legs. He is dark
skinned, with a slight red hue, that sometimes seems to intensify, and at
other times appears to fade almost completely away. One hand lacks two
fingers, the other three remain clenched in a fist. The head is hung
forward, slowly oscillating back and forth, and the chin juts out
peremptorily, while clumps of long, dark, scraggly hair seem to impede the

This vessel's quarter deck is well guarded from the rear and sides with
reinforced double woodplanks all around. The boards are brought together by
long vertical iron braces that keep the wood from bending and protect it
against minor attacks. Many maps are nailed to the rear wall of this deck,
depicting hundreds of lands unknown to Thera. The deckhands at work on the
main deck and masts can easily be observed from anywhere on this deck. The
wheel, about 4 feet in diameter, is a remarkable piece of carpentry carved
from a single solid wood mass.
