    If you play a human you can never drop prot shield vs dirt, but does a high dex drow or gnome needs to bother as much? The mana saved means being able to have more of mana shield and chain lightning, more hellstreams ..etc. It isn't quite a black n white issue.

    Damn no edit - - also I wanted to add that I've noticed many warriors arent bothering to try to bash mages, even though should be the first thing they try. Not sure if Warl is a warrior or whatever. But its something I noticed so another point against prot shield. It frees up mana for other spells if you don't need it.

    Gnomes aren't "high dex". Something like a drow could get away with it (from a dirt perspective, NOT bashing at all), but then again, its not like you are actually going to run out of mana as an invoker anyway. Plus a drows prot shield will last a long time on top of it. Just keep it up.

    have to agree with slade. Those "75" mana extra is hardly worth the risks involved especially when you take into account big base mana of a Drow or Gnome invokers.
    Bash is just too dangerous (easily possible scenario: bash just as you cast your hellstream... rounds of lag, hellstream is cast, his lag, another well timed bash right after...)

    Plus... rule nm 1. is no magical weapons vs invoker, so mana shield while extremely useful is likely bypassed early...

    I'm not saying don't cast it with a drow invoker, what I'm saying is, missing that isn't as fatal as if you miss it with say , a human, and take a dirt. You still have the dex insurance. Plus I think I'm right that warriors don't bash mages routinely enough. They don't do anything much besides the fleeeeeeeee murder. See my point?
