I can't post on forums, so i write it here.
Wasn't rage delete as Davairus thinks, after dying to Sanary (losing aura in knight's cabal, brandish failed, getting tworounded).
Well, any encounter vs any clueful warrior was rather awful, i simply couldn't do much alone. I had time to last 3 rounds with 1k max hps before i had to bail on 25% health left. Any decent warrior with defences trained ate basically no damage from 3 duplicates. Ok so, i manage to misguide/terrain a warrior but i can't simply outdamage him in no way. Restorer wands may have been really useful for that tho, but i'm not the gold farmer type.
I think that Illithid's are one of the most broken races on pinnacles where everyone knows how to exploit their vuln (was fine around 30-40 because people were often unprepared).
Oh and the parry that should be rather nice on fifty doesn't really work out as thought, with mastered parry i parry 2 hits out of 10 from an equal ranked person with decent hitroll.
Yes, illithid illusionist can completely pwn mage and cleric bases, but as nowadays population is full of rangers/warriors/serkers i would rather play a class that can fight back.
(About 10 of my deaths should be mobdeaths and lets be honest, it was more of a "testing" char, so i never really bothered to play it the "wimpy" way. It was fun berserking and shitty luck got me more than once, luck from my view, more likely my misjudging of chances, hehe)
Bye

I'll offer this constructive advice, and while I have limited play time with illithids or illusionists, I can say a few things with certainty. Any omissions or errors Im sure will be gladly cleaned up by others, except those people who are simply out to make unproductive and inane posts (i.e. Rozar).
first. consumables. Oh so important. lots of free heal consumables out there in a variety of forms, its not a question of money but of knowledge, where to get hem, how powerful, etc. all mages and even rogues get scroll use, and these classes also have low health. there are scrolls out there which heal you upon recitation.
illithisd. yeah, the vuln sucks. across the board vulns either remained the same or were toned down. illithid seem to be one of those that remained the same.
cone of force. its like a bash skill for a mage, but on a cooldown. unsanced with 3x hasted enlarged ill + successful cone = dead.
leech. a wildcard, never found a use for it, mostly because the requisite people were almost never in my pk to use it on them to test it out. still, a mal from a necro or dk would turn your illusionist into something pretty sick.
about that vuln. yeah it sucks, which is probably why you get that shock state where you turn mana into health. ever play with that to see whether its based on a certain amount of mana or just sucks all your mana and gives you a random amount? also, consumables will again pump those hp levels back up.
Parry: were you using weapon ward at all times? they probably nerfed non-weapon warded parry for illithids and made the previous amount of parry they do get based on weapon ward being up.
flashfire is pretty good to use at the beginning of a tick to get some distance and heal with consumables.
terrain is like a weaker blind, but instead of seeing nothing, they see "lost in the heart of sosoliawhatever", so thats some added input while theyre trying to recall where they are blinded. also it means you are near impossible to find in the same area.
misdirections a good thing if they're trying to flee.
Hp items are a must have, dunno if you had them or not.
5 pracs a rank to turn into health is pretty beef.
elves are decent, better than humans for certain, but ill can be quite nasty if you play them properly. that point is just a bitch to do.
I can understand cabal battles where you have to eat your death, but going after people because they don't have protection when you're naked/unpinnacled is just stupid. Take the time and gather your preps.
You say you're not the gold farming type, but I would suggest you adjust. Spend a surge or two in the Grimforge mines and you'll be sitting pretty, not to mention you'll have a fair amount of ore to make armor out of.
If you play smarter then you'll fare alot better against the tougher battles and win the easier ones, instead of dying to Mystics.
1) Consumables - I was using consumables alot, but there's noway you can outheal a slasher warrior damage hitting massacres 4 times per round to you.
2) Cone - It gives me a huge delay, i tried using it a couple of times, but it almost got me killed because the enemy can still hit back.
3) Leech - Wasn't pretty much anything to leech from.
4) Parry - i tried both, warded/non warded, parry still sucks as every other mage's parry.
5) Flashfire - I used that alot, but if you pump up good mental saves, then even 12 mental break only makes it work once out of 10 tries
6) Terrain - Read above.
7) Misdirection - Read above. (Sure it pwns everything without mental saves up, but people on pinnacles usually still wear saves:D)
8) Hp Items - I had Unique/Rares HP item set giving me +300 hps, making my max hps 1040 on 50. But they disappear quickly, so if i try to land 2 debuffing spells and they both fail im already down to 40% within first two rounds.
Xerties:
Then i was just berserking already, i tried to play smartly against Sanary and others, i died alot because of shitty unluck. I used anything for my advantage, but the pure damage from anyone just nerfed me. Attacking Noliperus was just for last bit of fun, i was deleting myself before you even logged on, but then i saw you there and figured ill give it a try:P
About testing, i was trying to see if i can make a level 50 caballed mage based while being "banned" and without multiplaying, luck was on my side as i had some free days and i could log on for surges like 2am and 6am:D
I also tried to wipe off the rust of pinnacle PKing and figured i'll work on my chasing skills before building a serious char.
Was fun and thanks for the fun from Sanary, Zlaad, Razael and anyone whom i fought/did something together.
I'll be taking a couple of weeks break and then i'll figure out a char that i'll invest more effort into.
And yes, m1co is right about the consumables. He used a ton and he used them liberally. Better luck on your next character.
i didnt post that. it was my friend Ergorion, hes a tool and he knows my pw.
no, im an asshole in general, it just happens that that one post was by him, not me
every other assholish post is me and im proud of it
