I think people do that so they can gain an advantage over people who spam murder by leaving their pet behind as they run

That's the only reason I'd do it. Make your characters name Defilerina or somethin' and then run to the Defilers when you're getting pwnt.

I had an idea a few years ago to make a rogue named Seri, so that I could hide in seringale and people would accidentally attack the shopkeepers

I remember on Cythlan there was a Knight named Cyrindel or something like that. And when I was fighting two knights one accidentally attacked Cyrindel instead of me... For a while I had a pet bull named Caden, hoping that people would make that same mistake but people are using aliases a lot more often...
