If you try a hard race/class combo, you will find competition from people who are even just starting AR. If you pick a noob cannon (shaman) you really can't be surprised when fights aren't that hard. Don't use lack of competition as an excuse for not playing at 50, there are a lot of good people who play AR, and even people who aren't badass are improving all the time.
And i don't lack RP talent, i never went out of character as Globur, just didn't cared much about RP before that char.
About harder combos, well, i played Gnome Ranger as a keeper and still everything seemed easymode.
