You'll just have to be more responsive than him.. Arvar's pretty seasoned in duels, the rank difference played a part though, the no pets thing playing the biggest part.

Nothing against Tepesh, or any other Keepers but I was a Keeper once and that was back when atonement sucked. So I know for a fact, being a keeper is easy. You don't need any tips Tepesh. You're a decent fighter to begin with and you're a Keeper. So you won't have trouble killing whoever you want.
