DKs with their unholy spells up and bashing is basically paladin cheese killing, due to how unholy strength does the MOST damage to paladins and healers.
Honestly, however, bash and trip in itself is what kills paladins, since they require distance and healing. The same could be said of dks, where a vuln/unholy str combo isnt or cant be involved. Both hybrids are supposed to make up the difference of their low HP and limited defenses in spell casting.
the only reason pip was so successful was because he had a lot of help powerranking up to 50 without eating too many deaths, and he was human, which is 21 str for parry and carrying enough weapons and consumables.
Dex is a completely wasted stat for elf paladin, as much for drow dk once you subtract dirt kick. There is usually some minor extra protection from dirt kick for the high dex races, but their most powerful stat is otherwise wasted, especially when you consider that parry is overcome not only by hitroll but by str vs str checks.
hybrids lost dodge at near the same time combat modules came in, which even further disadvantages low dex races who fail to play the rock paper scissor combat/weapon switch game perfectly.
On top of the necessity to carry a warrior's selection worth of weapons for 2h, dual wield, sword and shield, and weapon type superiority style, they must also wear the heaviest armor to get the most out of their holy or unholy armor bonus, which reduces a tiny amount of damage per hit, but also provides the same amount of protection from lag skills as dodge.
Again, this is where the high dex hybrids have been nerfed above and beyond the human. The human can carry that heavy armor with ease, and have plenty of spare room for weapons and consumables. They also benefit more than elvish hybrids from the unholy armor bonus, because there is a strict maximum on the bonus which is the same across races, unlike how powerful the dex/dodge protection from lag skills scales better for the elvish races, giving them better avoidance rates than humans.
so elvish hybrids lost their best defense stat, are required to wear armor as heavy as a human to protect themselves from lag skills, which is less than they could ever do with dodge and their high dex advantage, have vulns, and cant carry more than two or three weapons, and still have no room for heal wands or scrolls. Dav always made a point that classes with the ability to use consumables should be balanced so that they need one or two consumables, rather than it just being extra cheesy goodness on top of an already balanced class.

And yes, I deny it. Dark knights have an extremely high damage output and rogues are one of the lowest hp classes in the game.

also, see here: http://ar.invokation.net/logs/view.php?id=4923
Both are claimed to be abou 28-30 damroll, and both are doing shitastic damage through sanc.
in this log: http://ar.invokation.net/logs/view.php?id=4787
its interesting to see how a frienzied dk does damage equivalent to the unfrenzied dk in the first portion of this post.
