I had already typed in sideswipe when I sideswiped him...Aside from that bussiness as usual.


Warriors have a skill that can be used in superior combat style (barrage, sideswipe, and overhead crush).
Rangers have pets, plus if you dual wield and get caught doing so, they'll just hold a bow and dirt ftw.
Berserkers are same as warriors, so no need explaining.
Ninjas and thieves have sidestep, uncanny, and clobber that is more dependant on weapon types and always being counterbalanced to perform them. Also not being blinded from dirt, but how long does a dirt last on a rogue? Not long.
Paladins (I haven't played one in some time since Arishel) seem like they don't fit anymore. Sure they have strike, but that doesn't help you maintain superiority. In defense of pally's : Sideswipe lags, barrage can't remove shield, and overhead lags you also. Sure, paladins are hybrids, and they have spells and skills to give them GREAT boosts, but I still think they've been pushed aside because of the combat mods given to warrior and rogue classes.
Dark-knights same story as pally's, but I've never really played one to tell you how they are.
Just my two cents.
The issue is that in addition to the loss of dodge, they also have to play the warrior or rogue games while attempting to also spit out spells, and do this with even less inventory space via the armor/weight skill.
By the way guys, dark knights got a new spell called contagion today which lowers maledictive resistance.
It'd be more meaningful to give hybrids some form of compensation against combat and weapon skills, such as less lag time or the ability to nullify the damage or share it with the attacker, in exchange for the benefits of those skills, such as disarming a hybrid or raking the hybrid's weapons. paladin would be the one that nullifies the damage, while dk would be the one that shares damage between itself and the attacker, for aesthetic reasons.
Paladins got shield slam in an attempt to help deal with their predictable combat style but dks didn't get anything with it. Side note: I don't know what good contagion will do really because I don't see people running around wearing saves against dkns.
I think pally and dk should each get one dual wield skill and then they'd probably be in a lot better shape. The problem with them now is that you can sit in defensive and be 95% certain (drow dk is a little different) that you're not going to be inferior. And once you get the style, you can just focus on weapon advantage.
Hybrids with a dual wield skill would grant them the full array of rock, paper, and scissors and make them far less predictable.
i also don't know what good contagion will do, unless it doesn't abide by the normal skill_rank_check rules where a spell fails absolutely against higher ranked people. Then it would be useful for making higher ranked people susceptible to mals, and make people go malsave a little.
the thought process is that dks are supposed to make people want to wear saves to protect themselves from dangerous mals, making people weaker with hit/dam. This isn't the case because as long as people are higher ranked, they can just pile on more damroll and better eq and ignore saves completely.
This changes at 50 for certain, however, if the spell contagion is also limited in how easy it hits players based on rank disparity, then it's just like every other mal. useless to try against anyone higher rank, just spam unholy strength and get some weapons and fire or iceball and hope for the best.
Level disparity for hybrids creates one dimensional gameplay. I appreciate the time and effort the imms and whoever else put into giving some extra help to dks, but I'd like to understand why they thought this spell would be useful.
normally, you have less health as dk, so you want to cast your best spells as fast as possible and gtfo if things go south. you don't want to get into an attrition game. that's for clerics and possibly paladins. contagion is a spell for attrition wars. A lead in to landing more mals.
One thing about hybrids is that, that's exactly what they are. Combat/spell flinging individuals. Giving them a combat skill on top of the spells doesn't seem like it would be out of place, afterall, they can be the highest exp combos in the game.
Perhaps they could make a paladin/dark-knight skill/spell more useful than it already is.
Take shield slam for instance (make it where if target is hit by the shield slam, the targets arms/hands are shaken and can't switch weapons for the lagtime of shieldslam.) Similar to a berserker's headbutt, but for shaking them up a bit and fumbling of the hands takes place.
As for Dark-knights, for god sake put curse weapon to use. Make it where you can cast it on an opponent, and they have to hold that weapon for a duration of rounds. Make it a mal spell so that it can coincide with contagion.
This would cripple a warrior/rogue type to having to flee, but if the paladin is good enough to track then he can keep at it.
