Dirting a monk doesn't really do much since they can change fighting stances and they have blind fighting. I would just wait for the dirt to wear off so I don't lag myself.
You used leading shot, got dirted, dirted fled as his sanc wore off. If you used retreat as soon as you could instead of insta dirt, probably would have landed damage against him unsanced. It really doesn't make sense to wear a shield against a monk unless you are trying to bait him to switch to a bow immediately.

0 , 0 , 0 . There should still be some decent non-wild options for daggers, not including witch-carved daggers which can deal elemental damage. Not a ton on the mace side of things, but spears make for a decent weapon against monks since it helps bypass their dodge.
Afales 0 , 0 , 0 . Lionspyre> there are a few daggers but I think their average pales in comparison with the wild options. And one of them I probably wouldn't use anyway against monks (icy blue dagger) because it lowers your strength and does not have a great damage type (granted, it's no worse than any others against leopard style based on resistances granted). It also has only 21 average so there's better options. Fang of the oppressor is poison damage (which isn't desirable against monks due to their snake style), and there's also an orderly only magical dagger in Solace which does not appear to be in the codex.
Davairus 0 , 0 , 0 . Just a quick side note on that thread, its honestly a small change for me if I make the ethos just be chaotic. If that makes the game that little bit more fun for everybody I'm happy to make the change for you guys. That could open up lawful evil options that players havent considered since why would you pick anyone else but me.
[reply to Ozaru]I'll add to this by saying that you probably have an uphill battle against you as a ranger fighting a monk anyhow. Kick and dirt are kind of useless against them, and you can't disarm them. But what you can do is skirmish like hell. Maintain combat style advantage and burn them down quick.
On the other hand, their damage is fairly consistent.
As for maces... There are options but most of them suck. The skull-headed mace is not only heavy (heavier than even the bigger one-handed axes I typically carry as one of my primary weapons), but it's a disease damage type. Disease and poison damage don't tend to do well against monks in my experience due to snake style (but I think snake style was two-handed when I last fought them). The smoldering black mace is nice other than the fact that I have to carry special consumables to remove it (more annoying for Warlords than it is for many others).
Vainglory requires too much stat juggling for my tastes, and same comment applies from smoldering black mace.
But, the mace of disruption is really powerful and it's hard to beat it if you have enough strength to wield it (and have the right alignment).
