food. At the center of the pool is a strange hole in the water, as though a
circular well has been dug from it. Oddly enough the water does not seem to
fall into the hole, but rather floats around it. Within the depths you can
make out a greenish grotto.

people walk past about their business. The busy city centre is just to your

instrumental squawking noises coming from it. The road continues to the

City Centre of Timaran
You have entered the busy centre of Timaran. All around you people bustle
about their daily routine, smiling and laughing or walking by silently on
business. You see many buildings close by, mostly made of sold grey stone
with tiled roofs. A beautifully carved marble fountain dominates the centre
of the square, spraying water gently into the air in graceful arches. Often
used as a meeting place, people stand around or sit on the benches nearby
discussing various things or just generally relaxing. A few children, out
from the watchful eye of their parents, splash each other in the fountains
basin. Unlit torches stand in holders at various points of the square, so
that even at night the activity may continue unabated. Just to your south
is a large temple, and two others can be seen to the west and northeast.

Western Square of Timaran
This is the busy Western Square of the city. People stand around in
groups talking and laughing, and others walk past on their own business.
Many adventurers are here, looking for partners for exploring the world
outside the city. Travel stained people arrive here from the west, and
others head out that way towards the west gate. Beautifully carved wooden
poles hold torches that stand unlit currently, and there are one or two
statues of various animals dotted around. At the centre is a large
fountain with benches surrounding it, in which children are playing. More
people sit on the benches by the fountain, talking quietly or just
watching the children play. Just south of here a large building that looks
like a temple can be seen, shining strangely. To the north is a beautiful
marble archway, and not far away to the west is the west gate. Southwards
lies another street, and the Main Street continues to the east.

feet thick, and the gates heavily reinforced. Everyone who walks in and
out is closely checked by the guards, who keep an eye out for criminals
and other undesirables. You can leave the city to the west, or walk east
onto a street.

out a faint, but well-used, road leading to the City of Seringale.

Due north of you is a huge monastery, just barely visible through a blanket

You are travelling down the Eastern Road between Seringale and Timaran.
It has been constructed of a light yet resilient mineral which has stood up
to the bustle of tradefair passing through here. The road back to Seringale

guarded checkpoint. To the south you see a dirt path wandering off towards
a small village, away from the busy road.

To the north of you a grove of trees surround the perimeters of a dwarven
kingdom. Through the trees you can make out the outline of a castle, small

due to the presence of a playground of some sort to the west of here. It
seems to be unoccupied, at least from this viewpoint. The road continues
eastwards, travelling towards the City of Timaran.

The road takes a sudden swift turn here as it makes its way around the
outskirts of a small village, populated by gnomes. Its light but resilient
surface has grown brittle and hard from the many days of beautiful sunshine
that have been experienced by it. Despite this it has managed to remain in
good shape, looking more than adequate for its function as a trade route.

directions. It has been constructed of a light resilient stone that has

road continues, its resilient surface resisting the erosion caused by the
bustle of trade passing through the area.

The road is forced south suddenly here, dug around a towering statue of a
black dragon. The bypass heads south and then east. Taking advantage of

  1. Aside from some entertaining content, I'd like to use this log to discuss the present state of Keepers. I know the logboard isn't the best place to discuss in-game stuff, but I don't know of a better venue where others, like former Keepers, can chime in. If that's not ok, please invalidate my comment.

    In my opinion, Keepers are in a bad place. Yes I just got curbstomped, but I've felt this way for a while. I don't think I'm alone either. Look at Keepers over the last year. The mortal leader inactivitied, along with several others. Then a long time with just me, then two most recent inducts deleted almost immediately.

    Their mission statement right now is to take out the highest rated players. So we're being told to go attack the best players in the game at the height of their power. To me, that's a very tall hill to climb and I don't think the present toolset is up to the job. I don't think they should go back to being the rare police though. That's no good either since it makes Keepers more of a pariah than they already are and punishes the new players who just got drug through Winter by a cavalcade of Knights.

    I'm not 100% sure what the answer is. It's tough to balance because if you make Keeper powers too strong when a player who is way better than me (low bar) comes along they faceroll everyone. One thing that I thought of was scaling the Threat tag something like Wanted and maybe giving Keepers a hireling to help deal with the high end Threats.

    Anyway, I'd really like some input from others before I ramble too much more. Especially former Keepers (Mohglin, Kozrin, you out there?) on why they deleted. If it all just comes down to 'git gud' that's fine too.
    1. The underlying issue seems that the pendulum dominance is being established by capping with the enemy cabal offline. IMO, if your entire cabal roster is offline, its item being capped is irrelevant. The cabal item might as well not even exist. If it just moved when a Legion actually logged in, then we'd have a number of Knight vs a number of Legion, and pendulum pointing Keeper to assist the weaker side, which could alter based on logins / rating.
    2. So I deleted Kozrin, because I have more than one cabal character, and it was directly related to Legion rule change, nothing to do with keepers.

      Davairus, the pendulum is an issue, but not the main one. Having the pendulum respond just to people on or who has cabal items is a bit shallow, IMO. Ideally the pendulum would factor in many things, from total members, time online, rating, # of caps, K/D ratio, etc. The way it stands now if two Knights sign on you're immediately in conflict, even if they've been pummeled by Legion all month. It also means that if, for example, the Knights are getting bodied by Legion, Keepers can't help them equip if there's no Legion around.

      The bigger issue, to me, having to aggress against the top players. It's like being in Silver III and being thrown into Challenger queues, but you get 10% more gold. It's not enough to overcome the skill gap.

      Another option I thought of was to make Keepers a Prestige cabal, like how Vampires are a prestige class. Then the top players would be Keepers and help keep everyone else in check. Just an idea. Though considering how maligned Keepers are that might just kill the cabal completely.

      I wonder if there is a way to get around hard coding threats to be based on things like play time, rating, etc. Could it be something manually applied by the cabal imm or members? Like, use some judgement and say “even though legion doesn’t have many members, Dogran is doing great so I’m gonna take a run at him” or maybe “those knights just got full looted so I’ll help them equip even though they are more active than justice” etc.

      I always pictured keepers as being the guys to even out a fight. Ie, two knights and one legion in, help the legion. Tomorrow two legion and one knight on, help the knight. I do like the idea of getting away from being the rare police. That was just heaps of anti-fun.

    6. Kalist, I think that your outline of the idea of Keepers is the ideal situation. Unfortunately with the pbase the way it is, that rarely happens. Back in the day both Dogran and Rhoa would have been HGOD'd a long time ago. The way it stands now both these guys just sort of orbit each other, rarely directly engaging. They consolidate their EQ to ridiculous levels and their rating goes up to low earth orbit. Then a Keeper logs on and has to go fight them.

      Maybe that's just the way it is. If so, alright, but it doesn't seem to be serving the Cabal well.
    7. Honestly, why is Keeper even doing anything? Its time to just get of the way dude. Let the two titans fight for dominance. Shits like Kong vs Godzilla. Dogran is the giant destructive ape who only takes care of his own people, and Rhoa is the supergeared pally that the world's safety now depends upon. It sounds like they are ducking each other and taking it in turns to tee off on the Keeper cabal, but Keeper is the one instigating all the fighting. I'd call that behavior self-destructive. If following cabal rules is making them do that, the logical thing is change them.
    8. Well that's the whole point of this thread, Dav. As it stands now, Keepers are compelled to fight the top dogs, and are basically getting stomped. Well just me I guess, seeing as I'm the only active 50.

      What can be done to alleviate this? I can't force them to log in and fight each other, then swoop in and take out the winner. Even if one does kill the other, that just makes the job even harder for the remaining guy.

      I keep comparing to Justice because I think it's the best one to compare to. If someone gets Wanted and keeps taking out the Justices trying to apprehend, their wanted level goes up and the Justice gets more resources to bring them in. I'm wondering if something similar would be suitable for Keepers. Or some other idea.

I spent 6000 taiji to get my wears and it will cost more than that to do it again. I'm not interested in spending half a million gold everytime I re armor. And that thing you know the thing we do to weapons. Doesnt work on some weapons and cost a fucking ass load of taiji to. Its a uphill climb where people throw rocks at ya from the top and ill pass

    1. I always thought pitting Keepers against Justice was an interesting idea. Chaotic only, have good/evil/neutral and let the mortal leader shape the cabal principles. The contrast of different alignment conflicts could be gold and a level of RP standards would show, with the overarching theory being that civilization and tyrants are a threat to destroying the natural world. Chaotic (Keepers) vs lawful (Justices). Like good (Knights) vs evil (Legion). Could still have Keepers chasing high rating chars and/or cabals. Use to have warlord vs mystic.
      1. But keep in mind, and pretty sure this is still the case. But with enough effort, dedication, and RP, a mortal leader can greatly influence those around them and can even shape the cabal itself as to what is expected and what is not, what they use to do and what they now do, without straying too far from the grand scheme of things.

        I believe race/class combos are good starting points to help define such things starting with the backbones of their stories.

    2. Yeah that's avenging angel right there. Shit is strong as fuck. Rhoa got 4 attacks in one round with a two handed weapon. Technically impossible except for the most badass warriors. But Avenging angel is like haste, but it only lasts a couple rounds. When you see her use it run like hell and it'll wear off.

      Of course in this instance you didn't see her use it and she got a lucky murder on you after casting it and you insta died. real shit luck coupled with Rhoa being decked to unbelievable levels and an OP paladin.

      Not to diminish the talent of the player behind Rhoa. But all she had to do in this instance was cast a powerful spell and type murder fen and then watch.

      462hp in one round, through sanctuary(unless I missed something). No ones standing up to that. Thats a kill move from 60%. Got my popcorn ready waiting to see Rhoa V Dogran.

      The pendulum is a tough albatross to bear. It makes Keepers into hard mode because you have to take on whoever is boss right now, and really needs the highest tier skill level to work right. There isn't enough activity at most times for Keepers to work like it should i.e. turn a 2v1 into a 2v2.

      10. That's a fair point, Ozaru, but there have been changes in the last year. You can't augment your gear like crazy anymore being a big one. I can't speak to any changes to the things you mentioned, but they're probably more or less the same.

        I've struggled with being the only Keeper around. There's been nobody to help me figure out how the powers work, so there's stuff that I've foregone because I didn't understand it. That's on me for sure, but it is rough. That's part of the reason I made the thread. Not be called names.

What we could do here is remove an attack from haste and instead of that, have haste reduce the opponents ability to parry/dodge more than it currently does (I see in the helpfile it says that it does that). That way, we can get the average damage output mathematically equivalent so it keeps the spell decent without the bursty double round potential. It makes sense to have a fast character beating your defenses before you can parry anyway. Also could work defensively.

        I had a brief discussion with Dav about the parry effects of mounted/fly/ground and he led me to believe that being mounted does not have any affect on parry. In other words, the helpfile is wrong.

Doesn't that seem excessive? Isn't guardian angel the defense version? Shouldn't avenging angel be uniquely an offense boost with no defense increase akin to haste?

We can address the RP all we want, but it's still important to have accurate helpfiles.

        I'm fine with you not being in the mood. Close your logboard tab and go smoke a joint or whatever you want to do. But eventually you gotta do something about mistakes other than be a dick and ignore it.
      20. Just to clarify, not one person had complained that Shamans having shield block is OP. Its the de facto weapon ward the get from their cool roleplay sensical class shields that is being debated as OP. But I get the frustration of having people constantly complaining about what overall are small things. We blow them out of proportion due to the impact on our enjoyment that may have. The attitude ive been taking has been to steer into the skid to try to get an edge, but lately when ive been doing that these minor changes pop up to eat away at whatever edge is there. That too is frustrating. Think its just time for a break if expressing opinions is that big an issue.

      24. So on 3/27 one person found out, from you, that there is a helpfile error. which...hasn't been updated. Point still stands, we still have to confirm there is a helpfile error before they can log a bug about it. So we might as well fix them when changes go in instead of having to do this dance.
