A new life
As a young girl I found myself to always be looked over and seen as someone who was never good enough. My father cursed they day I was born and worse cursed my mother. My earliest memories were always filled with yelling and shouting how my mother was to blame for my fathers misfortunes. How I should have been born a man. My mother did what she could to shield me from this abuse, but one fateful night my father stinking of alcohol struck my mother and she fell unconscious. His anger rose and sought a new target, I ran towards my mother and lifted her head. Blood was slowing draining from a fracture in her skull. He raised his hands to strike me, in an instant I took a dagger from my waist band drove it through palm and forced it into the wall. He looked up in disbelief as I disobeyed his entire fiber. He raised his other and ready to strike me with full force and my mother lunged at him taking the full force of his blow and she slumped dead before me. My door was broken down and I could only hear hissing about as I slipped into an abyss of unconsciousness. I woke up to the sounds of blades clanging and shields banging eager to find a new path and a new life

Description:

An aura of fire surrounds this woman before you, her hair flows naturally just below her shoulders, each strand of hair has been painstakingly colored. Her elven bloodline shines through in a beautiful golden blonde color. While her human ancestry fires with a deep brown. As with her hair, a dichotomy of colors invigorate her brilliant eyes. Her eye brows are neatly shaped and with each blink of her eyes her lashes nearly cause a massive windstorm. Her left eye is a deep blue while her right eye is a light hazel with specs of green. She has a heart shaped face and you notice a slight imperfection. Her upper lip is thinner than her bottom supple lip. Here pale complexion is countered by dabs of rouge powder on her cheeks. Tiny freckles on the tip and bridge of her nose lend a gentle reminder that she spends quite a bit of time outdoors. Her body is rather slender, but her arms and legs are toned nearly free of any fat. Almost as if she lost within the rhythm of nature she begins to sway with the wind. As the wind carries to your nostrils you recognize the scent of rose water and vanilla.

GG to the people willing to fight, lost some decent fights didn't really win any meaningful ones, but overall this game has changed from being pk focused to whatever you guys want to do.

At least 4 different characters have amazing end game eq that have 0 intention of using it and im over it. I get not everyone wants to fight, but if you have no intention of fighting, no intention of logging on regularly, why keep the equipment? Truthfully it feels like 1 or 2 players are hoarding equipment on 4 or 5 characters.

Disappointing to be active here and being unable to accomplish what I wanted

Has there ever been a greater discussion around the hoarding issue? I can see your point. Inactive characters controlling ultra rare gear is detrimental to both the pvp and pve experience. But the rarity system is part of what makes the game unique and pve players or non aggressive players have to be able to gear up to do end game stuff and just feel safe from the PK scene too.

I think part of the issue might just be that the true elite gear is just so much better than its replacement how could you not hoard it? I've checked the cloak of most of the codex and never seen anything else like it (but my knowledge is limited). Maybe a viable solution would be true elite gear rotdeath items at the end of giant quest chain bosses? Then pve players could feel rewarded and geared out by taking the time to do stuff like order and Zak and the ultra rares could stay passing around the more fluid PK scene? I guess you could argue crafted gear kind of films that niche but I don't know if crafting has the "this is why I play" vibe that questing does. Just spitballin' here.

it's a delicate balance, while I want the equipment for myself to use because I want to fight people and especially the better players normally have great equipment. I can totally understand that a less experienced player wants to get their hands on rare/unique equipment. I remember the first time I got the solar grasp of wendigo, I thought I would be unstoppable. I died to the first person I fought and got full looted. To me thats the fundamental difference, people now are getting this equipment like its part of herald fashion week and don't use it. Not only that they aren't playing which would give them opportunities to be killed and the items circulate. A perfect example happened yesterday or the day before, Draelar in all his sweet gear shows up meanwhile 3 other heralds magically appear around the same time as each other. Militha comes on and wants to kill him but the heralds protect each other and Draelar eventually just logs off and militha does to. Draelar had no intention of fighting and Militha doesn't want to die 4 v 1. It's a lose lose because everyone pretty much logged off in about 30 minutes.

I was seriously considering taking this character into a mode of I need your armor because I will be at war and I need it more than you since I need to defend myself against the rising legion, knights, justice and keepers. While you sit around the tavern playing poker or studying in the herald area. I decided against it because that wasn't in the spirit of what I wanted this character to be.

I hope something happens about rares and hoarding because this makes the game stale for me and I know this game isn't about me, but I'm obviously not alone in this sentiment.
    4. Ooh, I was actually on at the time in question! I wasn't actually in the group you're referring to but I imagine you assumed I was since I was a Herald that was on. I actually was a bit worried I'd be killed while writing because I was alone in the Rest while other juicy targets who frequent taverns were out and about. I can see how our behavior might be frustrating. We pretty naturally form a gaggle because we're either doing Herald stuff like RP or writing or background approval which is super exposed so if multiple are on we're usually in the same place while doing it. And then there are other people who know we're friendly and ask us to come along so we often end up in big groups. I don't think it's malicious though. Drae has been a tavern patron forever so I think he logs in when he sees us. And he was part of Dwiggan's crew that did Zaik and Order. He's also pretty into his RP. I feel pretty confident if you'd bought him a drink and tried to play him at poker for his tiger sleeves or something he'd probably have done it.

I'm in no way downplaying the problem you're describing and think mechanical changes could help. But I also think your own in-game RP solution had promise to work too. There is definitely a group of newer players that are engaging in the game differently than the old PK guard. Meeting each other in the middle is probably the best way we integrate as a player base. I really was planning on fighting you! My own private frustration is that I'm never ready to fight. I'm learning my spells and tactics but I never have consumables. I gather them. I have them. I engage in herald stuff. And by the time I'm through lore note or background approvals everything I collected has evaporated. I've switched to gathering staves to try to master brandish so I can sanc from a non-degen item but it's a long road...
    5. That said I shouldn't speak for anybody else because I don't know those approaches will work. It's not *my* gear anybody covets...But it's worth trying! Your idea sounded fun to me.
    6. Might as well respond to Ozaru here, and I'll keep it civil.

I made this character with the intention of pushing my limits in PKing, but even at that I'm only willing to go so far. I actually attacked Linisan in town in an attempt to finish him off after a skirmish in Mudfall some time last year, as foolish as that was (and failed to kill him). Until I get better, I'm just not going to be able to handle even a 1v2 situation... While I know the theory due to watching Warlords attempt to fulfill the traditional requirements for Blademaster, I've never carried it out formally in practice. I'm also not suicidal; I don't consider it in my best interests to attempt a fight when I have 3 or 4 enemies at once to deal with. And since I'm not in a cabal, I'm not forced into the deathmarch situation.

As for Trillian's comment about consumables... Try buying white and black seeds at the shop south and west of Heloise's general store in Timaran. A couple RL hours after you plant them, the white seeds turn into herbs which grant sanctuary, and the black seeds turn into herbs equivalent of level 50 gyvel potions. For the most part they'll work as a consumable which doesn't rot, though if a shaman casts dysentery on you, some potions as backup are essential.
    7. Very interesting I'm try that! Thanks for the tip.!

    1. Had really high hopes this was going to be THE Ozaru character that lasts long and etches himself into the history. You do well w/o eq anyway, the eq comes over time, just have to be persistent. You beat that fire serker and all you had to do was to run until rage fell and you did not need uber eq for that.

To be clear I am not saying I lost this fight because of equipment. I am sure his equipment was on par with mine or worse. My growing frustration with this character and the game in general is that their is no benefit to being active. If you want to say I could go gamble for equipment to use my time, sure thats a possibility but if I was going to do that then I might as well make a keeper. As far as being persistent if Draelar decides to log in 30 minutes a month to keep his ring of accuracy, tiger sleeves, arm bands of order, halka does the same thing to keep all pieces of dragon equipment, grogdan logs in and duels twice to keep the titanium fullplate. I mean I get it, everyone wants to log in and have nice equipment and we all have various amounts of free time.

-half the exp cost, double the chance of learning skills - remove surges - increase the rare counts - so when people have time to play they know they can get done what they want. Characters are going inactive regardless - at least make the game playable for people who want to be active.
      2. I liked Leyta overall. I think our fights were boring and way to calculated. As far as the fullplate, I told you go get a overplating plate and I would give you the armor.

Bummer. I like Letya too. Felt like there was an ethos behind the character to be figured out and understood completely.

I also liked that warlords felt like a pretty consistent game presence with letya and sz. Wish every cabal had 2-3 active players

I believe there was an issue with the monthly limited items purge, but I am not sure if it was rectified for the end of February (have not been able to play to check).

I will say I agree with you Ozaru. I have a character that has been doing that for several months (not on your list). If I cannot play significantly this month, I am letting the purge happen.
I encourage everyone else in this situation to do the same. IRL it has been nuts, but hoping that the 'time is near' when you will have time for playing is not fair to the other players.

I had a friend who inexplicably kept rares across the Feb boundary despite low hours so it probaby isn't fixed.

Have you guys considered incentivizing people to shed rares somehow rather than just counting on good will? I feel like there are a lot of interesting options if devs are interested in brainstorm ideas. It's a tricky economy design space for sure because of the rare-means-limited structure but it isn't impossible. Even "hand in high end rares to Keepers for destruction" for account-wide surge benefits could help free stuff up when players are putting all their time into spinning up an alt.

So people really kept rares with 30 minutes of play time? That's obviously a problem that I would imagine would sort its self out at the end of the month. Maybe an increased hour requirement with increased bloodshed reward would help with Ozaru's complaint. To me, around 20 hours seems reasonable to keep high level gear. Is that requirement something that could fluctuate based on how many 50s there are?
        4. Scrynor
          0 , 1 , 0 .
I hope they don't raise the hour or bloodshed req. You don't want to make the game so needy it feels like a chore. I do think it could help a lot to improve the purge system past black and white keep or lose based on an hour threshold based only on rare / unique (I don't know if this is how it works just how it has felt to me). If there was a point system where items have points by rareness and your hours let you keep so many points of rare items that could go a long way. I don't think it is unreasonable to demand more hours to cross the boundary absolutely loaded than to cross the boundary retaining 1 or 2 high end items.

          1 , 0 , 1 .
i like the bloodshed mechanic, it gets people playing more than they would normally, without going for a minimum. a drawback is that its obviously cheesy to kill mobs for that with barrier, invokers just solo the entire challenge arena. again though, they would otherwise sit making mushrooms somewhere for 20 hours, its better than just sitting afk. i think it would be good to get some warlord crafting with the trophies, and as for being rewarded for being active, thats fine but you dont want another rhoa result. enchanted engraved imbued augmented titanium tenor after sitting on all day hardcore farming. that would just make it worse for someone who keeps restarting
        6. It's almost if we need a cabal whose purpose is all about killing rare hoarders and getting those items redistributed throughout the lands so Serin is balanced right. Hmmm.

        9. All I see Pauwyr do is log on, go barrier/storm mists. Log out. Easy way to keep some great rares for him. Ozaru is totally right here.

      2. I agree with Ozaru in this case, a lot of Heralds/RPers with 0 intention are literally hoarding the top end-game gear just out of boredom with no intention of putting it into use in PK. Though to each their own, can't really blame them either, what else is there to do than go out and gather gear when you're non-PK char/cabal.

Anyway, really shitty that Letya had to delete over it. Coulda figured something out.
        1. Wait, what? Did Letya "have to" delete over it? That's a choice Ozaru made and it's just that. His choice. Also, we Heralds and RP players *do work*. Warlords teach people to fight. Justice makes everybody feel safe in town. Heralds edit and approve backgrounds while encouraging storytelling and writing and expand lore. Put some respect on our name. Just because it isn't your preferred part of the game doesn't mean it isn't important. We put in just as much time as those fighting logs. Count the hours.
        2. How are we even being slandered here? Our equipment is garbage outside of Pauwyr!
        3. One thing I want yo mention, I haven't tried to murder any of the other heralds yet, but Ilromie definitely stayed and fought till the end. It was lots of fun. One big avenue for gear is forged gear, that's what my gear set is built around and it's competitive.

          THIS COMMENT HAS BEEN REMOVED.
        5. Letya didn't have to delete over it, and honestly, somebody else was crying to me like this too in game, trying to get me to kill them. My character is lawful good and worships Sarich, so I had no reason to be killing them. There's so many tears I could salt the oceans.

Mystics and Scholars also do more than just sit in the Rest. Scholars do some combined work of the other two coteries (though I focus more towards the Herald side), and the Mystics contribute lore to creatures, which includes ranking mobs and raid bosses. You don't need to be a bard any more to determine a creature's weaknesses if some lore has been written and approved (this takes two contributors). All you have to do now is LORE a creature you come across and in many cases you will see immunities, resistances, and vulnerabilities, if present. If you don't see lore available on something which you want to learn about, you're more than welcome to ask a Consortium member to add it.

Valindra and I are working on reviving the Great Serin Race (I wrote up a bunch of riddles for it), though so far we haven't managed to get necessary assistance from the Immortals to complete the task. Hopefully that gets resolved soon.

So yes, we've been doing far more than sitting in the Rest. And no, I have not simply been hoarding my gear; I have been using it to defend myself and attempt to deter others from randomly attacking me. Also, if you're going to bitch about us having gear like this Ozaru, maybe you shouldn't put some of those rares up for auction in the first place? You actively gave me at least one of my items by leaving it in the auction house.

Let's be clear - In my opinion, Ozaru was not bitching. He was pointing out facts as he saw them. Everyone has a different play style.
        8. Roll an evil, invade the Rest, hang out with the nerds, get better at reading comprehension, realize Ozaru is talking about non-Heralds or those that aren't actually on, return to the forum to discuss hoarding with Dav.

Good plan! Seriously, war on the Rest will have the opposite impact of what you want. Most of us sit around in platinum, gemstones, or style other poor set. If you force us to gear up that is against your desire.
        9. Davairus
          0 , 0 , 0 .
If the Heralds were actually holding the best rares (i.e. hit/dam stuff) then they are obviously inviting warfare. Solution to that is easy, we'd just give them a choice of cabal item to defend or accept disarmament. It obviously wouldn't be fair to have decked out characters running into an inn, slapping on lifetime barred from tavern and then pushing them out with bouncers. I can't say I have noticed decked out Heralds though. If someone can point out a single herald hoarding a buncha hit/dam rares we can follow up about it. I'm not interested in if its just hp/saves eq
        10. Pauwyr. Not only hoarding and only killing mists to get gametime, actively avoiding all PK for months.

            [reply to Scrynor]
          1. Good fights. Berserker vs Ranger is a tough matchup - could go either way most times. That would have been great RP to kill people for eq because you needed it more due to frequent fighting. Agree and approve.
              [reply to Sef]
            1. I feel bad for this, because I feel like if I had been around more in last few days, I coulda talked him out of deletion and figured something out, perhaps start a War even, because I know how frustrating it is when you play several hours a day but have nothing to progress for and all your carrots are being held by people who do the bare minimum to keep them. Talking about Pauwyr mainly and few others.

But also Jaroth has a good bulk of rares and it woulda been a matter of time to get his stuff, seeing how you are more than capable of fighting with shit gear too, Ozaru.

In any case, there woulda been a solution, you coulda just had my set and I woulda retired for a month or something. Next time, voice your concerns before you delete and give it a bit of time for a solution. You always delete first, then talk. It's a bit counterproductive, because what can I do for you now? Nothing.

Sad to see you go, was really good seeing you play w/o ragedeleting over dying, woulda been a lot of potential.

                You will be missed.

As for rares, the lands need an annual purge day, everything not gained in the last month, poof, back to the mobs, so make it happen.

Annual purge day is a cool idea. It would be even cooler if it was a big in game event that could get triggered by finishing a quest chain. A brawl between people trying to trigger the purge and people trying to prevent it sounds hilarious.

All I am talking about is people who are inactive with rares. It doesn't do anyone any good if you are inactive period, but if you have useful items on your person that can make the game fun for others why are you holding on to them? Last thing if you say you have the rare items for defensive purposes to me that is completely stupid. If you are on defense it means you are simply avoiding a fight at all costs until the person gives up chasing you or you quit out. Both instances are absolutely terrible for game play as this is a pk mud after all. What ever item I auctioned and you bought maybe the kingslayer or the granite plate? Eh so those items are useful to a lawful good illusionist how? At least be reasonable in your statements, if you are going to buy something on the auction house use it and be active. If you are going to clear winter use it and be active. If you can't be active and you don't want to fight anyone why have rares? If you know you are going to get killed because of a lack skill that plus 3 dam glove really isn't going to make a damn bit of difference right?
                1. It was actually the Rod of Fortitude.
