The life of Kwyl was one of hard work, effort, discipline and focus.
When he was younger, his parents were murdered while attempting to help out
the people of the Mudfall incident. Left with no one to care for him. His
neighbors gathered funds to pay for an escort and sent him to Seringale.
While roaming the streets, looking for his next meal to eat, a passing monk
took notice of the boy. Through great mercy he gave the boy food, drink and
a place of rest. The Monastery of the Holy Grove was such place. There the
years went by where Kwyl toiled in chores, training, and meditation.
Seeking to slowly better himself from the life he lived alone on the streets
of Seringale.
One might think that he may choose to extend that merciful hand that was
given to him. Another might think that he would seek vengeance against
those who murdered his parents. And then the last might think that he would
simply live a normal life. Alas, in his meditations he found that none of
those particularly called to him. He would help those who needed it, extend
that hand that was given to him. He wouldn't actively seek those who killed
his parents, but if an opportunity for retribution arrived he might take it.
And if there was one thing he knew for certain, he did not want an ordinary,
normal life.
He sought a new path, training to become better. Learning to perfect
himself, and learn all that he could to apply himself in combat. He learned
of those that are called Warlords, and actively began to work upon himself
to hopefully find himself worthy of their valorous halls.
A scarred past.
"Again." A voice called out.
The young halfling assumed his form, determination burning in his eyes as he
faced down his taller human foe. A quick blitz of strikes as they met and
Kwyl had the other pinned, a knee pressing against their throat.
"Hold" Shizhan called again. The elder monk approaching to ensure that
there was no harm done. "Well done, young Kwyl. You are learning quick."
He called out. Kwyl stood up off of his opponent, offering a hand to him
that was knocked away. The human disciple's face was one of furious anger,
moving to stand up on his own.
The action caused Kwyl to frown at him. He knew that Jorhei and himself
weren't on the best of terms, and hoped that he wouldn't take such a loss,
the last of many between them, so roughly. It was a spar, to better each
other. If only Kwyl or Shizhan had known the darkness and rage that roiled
in the other male's heart.
The day passed without much other fuss, communal training had occurred
followed by dinner and evening chores. It was a routine that Kwyl had
learned well. He made his way to his room, hardly spacious yet for him it
was enough. It had a mat with a pillow and blanket. A short, wide stool
that he repurposed into a desk for himself. And a window slit that let the
that let him view the sky as he desired. He thought back briefly when he
first came here, and thought how abhorrent this was compared to his life
with his parents. Yet now, so long after such comforts, it grew on him.
He closed his eyes for rest. Yet it seemed his body wouldn't let sleep
fully take him. He doesn't know how long afterward his eyes closed they
shot open. Something warm, sticky and wet spilling down his neck. Then the
pain hit. The sharp, tearing pain at his neck as he realized with a gurgle
from his lips, that his throat was cut.
He laid there, eyes slowly clouding over as he sore he saw the face of
Jorhei before his vision started to cloud. His body choking on his own
vital lifeblood. Tears welled in his eyes as he thought himself lost. It
was in this state he remembered something from his personal studies. How
trained monks could focus their chii to restore and heal their body. He had
felt the inklings of his own chii before, knew how it flowed through him.
His hands started to clench into fists, his eyes regaining clarity from the
murky haze of death. With a gritting teeth, he attempted to focus his chii
into his body, willing it flow around his neck, through his wound. Forcing
his body to stitch itself back together. It felt an eternity for him, yet
it was most likely only seconds.
His body heaved with a haggard cough, blood spilling from his mouth as he
gasped for air. His hands flew to his neck, feeling the messy scar there,
red and puffy from being freshly mended. Thoughts in his mind swam to
revenge and then there was clarity. He survived where many others could
have died, who knows who else Jorhei could have done that to. If it was
him, but who else. He had no proof other than his clouded eyes. It could
have been the imagination of a person dying. So he resolved not to
instigate and point the finger. Instead, when day broke, he reported his
assault and let the elders deal with it. He was sent to the infirmary for a
few days, an elder nun of the monastery tending to his wounds before he
snuck out and started to train again. Determined to not let such a thing
halt him from progressing in his goals.
Description:
Short, tangled locks of muddy brown coat this short figure's head. He
has deep, dark bags under his eyes, as if he doesn't sleep much. His face
is round, almost child like with the fat clinging to his cheekbones. His
nose is soft, rounded, much like a button as it seems just a bit squashed
onto him. His ears hide inside the mop of hair, only the lobes poking out
of the mess. His skin is quite tan, most likely due to being out under the
sun. His body seems to be lithe, but what clothing and armor he wears seems
to hide much of it. His lips are tugged into a cheerful smile, as there is
a slight twinkle in his green eyes. The last thing you take notice of, is a
horribly jagged scar across his neck.

Didn't realize you meant you'd follow quite this soon. Kwyl was the only non-Justice I ever did stuff with semi-regularly. Friendly players are for a lot of us, the draw to this game. So keep being you (unless you go with a less than friendly style of character, in which case, its understandable).
I tend to be friendly on all my characters unless given a reason not to be. For example, he wouldn't purposely seek out Kryton, knowing it was a fight he couldn't win, but if Kryton wanted to fight, he would oblige. It was part of his own personal honor.

Well… that feels a little anti warlord, doesn’t it? Like that has nothing to do with friendship, that’s about rising to a challenge.

I could actually understand that remark if Kwyl was at a 90% win rate, but not at 55% with two losses to Kryton already, and looks like apparently killed repeatedly from the pK record, he is supposed to challenge himself, not be a glutton for punishment. If there's nothing to learn from the loss, the fight has no real value tbh. Also, I watched Kwyl get shit kicked by Zephyrion who is similarly a giant warrior, and with his wins over slith warrior, it points to maybe monks are having a hard time punching against giant skin specifically. We should probably talk about that. Like maybe if you hold level 3 chii (i.e. you dont release the chii bolt) you could do magic damage punch. dunno, just a thought.

I thought I remembered a forum discussion on the issue with monk elemental options being that monk the damage type switch from switching styles is too temporary and you can't be constantly switching to get that perk? What if you just refined that system? Let them toggle the style damage type on and off or maintain it with whatever resource?
I could be remembering the conversation wrong though. Been a while since I monked it up.
Is it really the giant skin? I thought that I won because I did pretty well in swapping combat styles and also capitalizing on the failed dirt kicks.
I really hate monks, no fear of getting dirted and able to change combat style when blinded, and I have to flee everytime I get dirted, it's annoying.
Kwyl won Eodo (stone warrior) 2-1 and mind you, Eodo actually beat Kryton too. Kwyl also won Roamas (storm warrior) 2-0, was even against Ashan (stone berserker) 3-3. So maybe it wasn't a giant problem, but more of a better player behind the character?
As a warrior, if you are insta-fleeing when dirt kicked by a monk, you might want to reconsider.
Blind fighting, double grip, reflex and hobble are this biggest factors why warrior can be one of the toughest fights for a monk. Stone skin is icing on the cake. Double grip and reflex should be utilized while dirted, instead of insta-fleeing imo.
Kryton speaks true here. I remember one of the things that surprised me most in our first fight were those reflex kicks. They knock a ton of movement, and that contributed to me ultimately running out of moves which let him finish me off.
I've also had a fairly good track record against most giant warriors, although they are by far some of my hardest fights. My personal feeling is that, given how steep of a challenge monk can be against other classes (like illusionists and necromancers), I think the fact that giant warriors are a struggle for us is a fair tradeoff. Plus, from an RP perspective, it makes a lot of sense. Good luck trying to wear down a giant with your fists.
As stated by accident not in this thread. Eodo ate too many crane kicks due to being locked up in skills i think, then didn't know the layout of Gnome Village. Our third duel was in Ford.
Roamas, we dueled after he was pinnacled and again when he got more gear. Both were in the base Arena and he almost won the second duel.
My losses to Ashan were due to me trying to be fancy. I started to win when I stopped that and just flee murdered him. I don't think Ashan is the best at PK.
In all honestly, I believe there is something to factor about a giant's strength and a weapon that hits ridiculously hard.

The biggest factors are strength and physical resist for giants. You'll never be able to disarm them. Then warrior on top of that.... dont get me started.
I never got why giants ran the moment I kicked dirt at them instead of just toughing it out. And as for the wins against Eodo. The first one he ate way too many crane kicks. The second win was because they didn't know the layout of Gnome Village and I was about to out heal in a small area.
